Real! I craved apples with DD (I'm allergic and never eat or crave them!) and had to eat one once, I couldn't get it out of my head! so I did and I had no allergic reaction! I ate them all the time during pregnancy and by the time I got home from the hospital after birth I was back to being allergic. So weird!!

I think real!

Like I pour my son a glass of milk and then chug it myself and refill it for him. I never drink milk when not pregnant! I drank it a lot when pregnant with my son too.

@Mrs. Sunshine: I haven't been able to test my lactose tolerance yet after this pregnancy, because we figured out at about 3 weeks that LO has a major dairy intolerance. SO, until I wean, it will be a mystery!

I don't have super strong cravings, but sometimes I feel like I almost have an aversion to almost everything except for one food that sounds good. Usually Mac n cheese.

@Mrs. Oatmeal: my lactose intolerance went away and seems to have stayed away. So crazy! Drinking a glass of milk used to make me feel so bad, but now it's fine.

@Mrs. Oatmeal: same for me with the lactose intolerance! It totally went away while pregnant and while I was breastfeeding. It came back shortly after LO weaned. My good friend had the same experience. We both loved being able to enjoy dairy as much as we wanted

@winniebee: that's exactly what I think. Like - mmm watermelon would be great right now. I need something like that. ANd if I have said watermelon, it's like the "best watermelon ever".
But it's not strong enough to go out or send my husband out for whatever it is. I know it's pregnancy related because as soon as I'm not pregnant, I'm like - eh, that'd be nice, but I don't neeeed it.

Both aversions and cravings were SO real for me. With both kids, my lactose intolerance went away while I was pregnant, and I craved milk like crazy- I probably drank a few gallons during a two or three week period. With M, my iron was so low that I was craving ice in a big way. Like, I would fill my 1L bottle with ice cubes and crunch away on them.

I also craved fruit, lemon meringue pie, and Taco Bell. I couldn't stand coffee, most vegetables, or roasted almonds (??)

Aversions - so real! Things I loved I could not stomach while pregnant. Mostly garlic and onion but also red meat

Cravings - real! I never really liked cantaloupe and never bought it for myself but when I was pregnant I had to have it daily!

Definitely real for me. For awhile I had such strong cravings for watermelon that I would wake up in the middle of the night and I couldn't back to sleep because I was thinking about watermelon! Needless to say, I always kept 1 or 2 in my fridge after that, haha.

I don't know, I didn't really have any regular, consistent cravings. More like if I heard about or saw a food, I wanted it. Like buffalo wings. But then I'd have it one time and be over it.

@mrs.kiwi: LOL at prehistoric brain! But I totally agree with you. I'm not one to wave the "I'm pregnant" card, especially when it comes to food so it's really crazy to me how difficult it is to fight these this time!

Yes aversions are real! Cravings.. Meh.. Maybe I'm sure part of it is real but I think many times its psychological... And/or waving the "I'm pregnant" card..

This is a different topic but it's kind of like "prehistoric brain" or "mommy brain".. Yes You're more frazzled and exhausted when pregnant or raising young kids but personally I never use the term mysel or give myself that kind of excuse lol

@winniebee: I still kind of agree that they are part psychological. Which is why I'm curious to know if my strong cravings this time are due more to fatigue/having more on my plate mentally than the last two times. I'm hoping maybe the "need" for junk will subside more after the first tri and I can eat more veggies again!

Yall are making feel much better. I don't get every food I crave but the obsessive thoughts alone were making me feel so out of control!

I sent my husband out one night for cream soda and orange soda. I also cried when he told me that the gas station was out of hot dogs (because I was craving the specific kind that they sell).

I think they are real, but partly psychological. I get an idea in my head that something might taste good and then it's all I can think about until I have it. I've been thinking buffalo chicken something or other since yesterday morning and I'm finally making it for dinner.

For me, so very real. If there are no baked goods in the house, I have actual anxiety. I've stopped trying to make healthy versions of them too - I'm currently on Toll House break + bake choc chip cookies every night. I'm ashamed but I get so upset without a sweet treat in arms reach!
Also, aversions... within a week of my BFP, my favorite coconut seltzer sounded absolutely appalling to me. At 34 weeks it's still a thing, I'm getting sick just thinking about it!

With my 2 previous pregnancies I always thought cravings were more imagined.I didn't really get them and I felt that maybe everyone was just hungry and they felt they MUST HAVE withe first food that popped into their heads. But this pregnancy I am seriously having cravings and dying to eat foods I NEVER eat (like slim jims, what the heck?). I'm not sure if it's because this time I'm taking care of 2 other kids and I'm just too tired to push through the initial gag reflex to eat something healthy or if these cravings are actually real. If I want something for more than a day or two I usually eat it.
