A lot of tbe forbidden foods are things I don't care for, with the exception of wine and medium rare steaks. I don't indulge all the time, maybe one glass of wine a week or every other week. My parents raise their own beef, that's where our steaks come from so I'm not too worried about them.

Oh god, I ate some raw cookie dough and paid for it with a horrible night in the ER puking my guts out. The baby's heart rate was well over 200. I was sicker than a dog fish. It was the one indulgence that really burned me (and cost a lot of money!)

I ate deli meat midway through the 2nd trimester, and now eat it fairly regularly. Soft serve I've had a couple times, and I drink Coke Zero.

I eat the things that the risk is low... deli meat, an occasional fro yo, and hot dogs. But I don't do things with caffeine - the fact that babies can't metabolize the caffeine really scares me.

@sarbear: My doctor also never gave me a list of foods to avoid. They just wanted me to eat healthy, and eat 500 more calories than before I was pregnant (I was at a healthy weight). They gave me a list of safe medicines and that was it. I learned about most of the pregnancy "don'ts" online!

@MSBartlett: 1/2 caff coffee and maybe a soft serve ice cream? Most of the forbidden things (deli meat, sushi, alcohol, soda, eggs, etc.) were already things I didn't eat so I wasn't really deprived of anything!

After the first trimester, I eased up a bit. I don't drink coffee (only decaf) or alcohol. I had sushi before I knew I was preggo, but stopped that when we found out. Otherwise, yes runny eggs, medium steaks, deli meats, soft-serve all have been fair game for me!

Oh gawd, I've had pretty much everything you're "not supposed" to have so far...

Deli meat (so freaking good...)
Medium steaks
Soft serve/frozen yogurt
Brownie batter
A few random sips of wine
Diet pop
Hot dogs

I don't know, I tried to really look into a lot of these and some of the risks were so (in my own personal opinion) small, that it wasn't worth it for me to completely abstain from them. Granted, I'm not out eating EVERYTHING on the list on a daily basis, but more so enjoying everything in moderation (and really just not being stupid--I'm not going to go slam a bottle of wine, get a sandwich from a street vendor whose deli meat is warm and slimy, and finish it all off with a case of Diet Coke!)!

I find that I can satisfy my cravings for sushi if I stick to cucumber rolls and avocado rolls. It's mostly just the texture of it that I miss, not necessarily the raw fish.

I am having a hard time not grabbing a jimmy johns sandwich. I really miss those.

I think the only thing I've relaxed on is the soft serve ice cream, in moderation.

Everything in moderation. The "rules" now were not the rules 30 years ago and probably won't be the rules in 30 years, and the rules in the US are not the rules in other parts of the world anyway. So basically, I don't stress it!

You guys, this makes me feel SO MUCH BETTER haha. I've been kicking myself for having deli meat a few times but for whatever reason- it sounds so good to me! And the whole microwaving the meat before? YUCK!!

I am having a cup of joe still but I do stay way under the 200mg for caffeine. I'll have a diet coke if I haven't had a coffee that day.

I haven't ventured into sushi but I've had some pretty intense rainbow roll cravings. DH is more protective of it than I am (of course, since HE can eat it!! haha)

my doctor never mentioned anything I shouldn't eat/drink, except for alcohol, so I took that as everything in moderation is fine.

Its still early for me (6w4d-ish) but I've had a hard time giving up coffee. I still have a small glass of iced coffee each morning that I make myself (I gave it up this last week since I had a scare and I didn't want to chance anything, but now that I know it was spotting from my internal exam, my coffee is back :-)
Also, BACON - regular and turkey. I only have it on the weekends so its not like I'm gorging on it - but I really can't give that up and seem to want it even more now.
I've indulged in chocolate and potato chips a couple of times...not necessarily 'off limits' but still feel really guilty afterwards.

Not sure if froyo technically counts as soft serve or not (I assume so since its the same type of machines) but I didn't have any in the first trimester. I was super nervous and even made DH call the Mexican restaurant to make sure the queso was pasteurized ha.

Coffee, cola and the occasional half glass of wine/turkey sandwich (untoasted, the horror!) and soft serve cone. Soft cheeses (even though I think they're okay) and a few medium- rare steaks (from places/people I trusted). I had runny eggs once but my body didn't like them (to be fair, my body didn't like much of anything I tried to eat, so it was me, not bad eggs).

I took a "everything in moderacution" stance. The only things I partook in on the regular were coffee (one cup a day, brewed at home) and cokes (1 can a day in the first trimester when coffee was a big turn-off, and later, 2-3 cans a week).
