@winniebee: that's exactly what this paranoid mama needed to hear, thank you! My OB has told me repeatedly it's safe, but a few comments from IRL people who insinuate that any medication is just terrible and I need to tough it out has made my anxiety skyrocket. Did you take it up to the very end with your other pregnancies?

Insomnia has been my worst symptom so far. My doc says it's fine to take unisom every night, if necessary, though I try to limit to a few times a week. But it's basically the same thing people take for morning sickness (in diclegis) so I'm sure it really is fine daily.

I just talked to my OB about it last week because I was up nightly from 2-4am and miserable.

They said its fine just dont exceed the dose on the package (mine says 2pills/50mg in 24 hr period). I was fine taking just 1 pill (so 25mg) and getting some rest.

I'm 19w and have been taking half a unisom probably 5 nights a week since my first tri. Whenever I don't take it, I am up all night. Even with it, I'm tossing and turning a lot but it definitely helps me at least fall asleep (staying asleep is a different story, ugh). Hopefully it's ok...

I am only 6 weeks but I have taken it about 3-4 times already. I wake up all night without it. I took a half last night since DH is traveling, so in case LO woke up I wouldn't be as out of it. I slept amazing. So half seems to work as good as a whole one but I wasn't as groggy when I woke up.

I take a half a tablet every night about 45 minutes before bed. It helps me go back to sleep after my pee breaks at night. If I have a LOT of trouble falling asleep in the first place, I'll take another half tablet around 11:30. I'm fine the next day.

ETA I've taken Unisom throughout each of my pregnancies and my 2 boys are totally healthy : )

I'm 22 weeks and have been taking Unisom since first trimester for nausea. I was taking a half every night but found that I was SO tired during the day. I tried to stop taking them but would feel nauseous the following day and would sleep terribly too. I did cut back to 1/4 tablet and it seems to do the trick. I still feel nauseous by about 9 or 10 pm so I take one and pass out and usually sleep through and feel great the following day.

if you took Unisom to deal with insomnia during pregnancy - how much / often / how long did you take it?

I'm at 33 weeks and am trying really hard not to take it (usually half a pill) unless I'm desperate (once a week or so), but I'm struggling so much :(
