I'm having awful, awful breakouts. I switched to using cetaphil cleanser and moisturizer based on recommendations here, and already was using BareMinerals makeup. If I'm good about not touching my face it clears up! But..I'm really bad about leaning on my hand. So my chin is an ongoing battle!

Thank you guys so much for the makeup tips! I'm glad i'm not the only one this is happening too. I'm holding out in hopes it doeesn't get too bad but if it's anything like it was on BC i probably wont leave the house for my entire pregnancy haha.

@meredithNYC: I'm tempted to try that moisturizer. I thought about the clinique dark spot remover as well but I don't know if it works on something that is supposed to be temporary. Guess it couldn't hurt to try!

I get spots from my birth control, too, and have always struggled with breakouts, so I know when I get pregnant my face is going to be a mess (or maybe I will be one of those who is the opposite? yeah right!).

If you're looking for a great foundation, I recommend Makeup Forever from Sephora -- they have an awesome primer and the coverage is great. If you top it off with the HD powder from Makeup Forever, it's a really great combo. For even more coverage, like for under eyes and to cover up patches of those spots, I love Cle de Peau concealer. It's expensive, but it lasts forever and it's really the *best*.

@Lone Palm: that's what I would start with, also Smashbox has a great concealer if that would work!

I have a bit of this, too, but so far I haven't done anything about it. I just try and cover it using foundation. However, I have heard great things about the Origins "Brighter By Nature" skin tone correcting moisturizer. It's kind of expensive, but maybe worth it?

@Lone Palm: It's not that bad for me... But my husband did take a surprise photo of me last night and I LOOK LIKE A ZOMBIE. It gets worse if you're in the sun, and I went for a walk during the day this Saturday. Oops!

@PurpleUnicorn: I'm probably in a smaller percentage of women who get it. I know it's most common on the belly ;) It got really bad when i was on BC but pretty much went away as soon as I stopped taking it. thank god! I'm hoping it doesnt come back full force...so far so good but i worry about it.

@pastemoo: So glad to hear i'm not alone!

I had the acne and now the discoloration. I only wear makeup for photos though, so... I just deal. No one else notices much.

@artbee: I've noticed some breaking out too. mostly on my chin ugh!
@jessiejo17: Thanks for the tip! i'll check it out. Maybe i can just use it on those places and a lighter foundation everywhere else and hopefully blend it well.

@chopsuey119: You are lucky! i know my mother had horrible pregnancy mask with all 5 children so i am anticipating it too especially since I had the problem when i was on hormonal BC. Its the worst in the summer! I always had to wear a hat because the sun would make it that much darker.

I didn't have any skin discoloration issues during and post pregnancy! My mom's an acupuncturist and says I need to eat super well and healthy so I don't get spots on my face.

Estee Lauder has an amazing photograph foundation, I find it a little thick for every day use, but definetely would work great on covering up dark areas.

I had bad acne when I got pregnant and wasn't telling people yet... I hated that my face was doing that and I couldn't tell people why! I don't wear much makeup so I don't have suggestions, but maybe you could go to the makeup section in a department store and have them try some things out for you.

Hey Ladies! I'm still really early on in my first trimester and so far I haven't noticed much change in coloration on my face but I know its coming. When I was on BC I had the worst discoloration on my skin. Mostly on my upper lip and some spots on my cheeks - it was so embarrassing! I just know that it's going to happen sooner rather than later in my pregnancy. Any advice on how to cope with this? any good suggestions for foundation to cover it up?

Thanks!
