@cyoung: As long as it's doubling, that's what matters. With each of my losses the level wasn't doubling. Obviously, things can still go wrong, and if her family history is of later first trimester loss that wouldn't be apparent at this point, but if the level doubles that's a really good sign!

@CatchAFallingStar: @ttcgirl: okay so good news. Apparently the numbers did double!!! Idk if there was miscommunication between the nurses or what. But her progesterone is low so they went ahead and put her on supplements. She texted me this this morning.

Also we have no clue when she ovulated. They were having a few relaxed cyles with ttcing at least for a few months. Her period is weird and sometimes she bleeds like two times a month and she did this past month so her due date is up in the air till she gets further along and has a scan. She only tested cause she was nauseous and cramping a ton. I think she is just now 4 weeks or so.

The HCG level is not as important as whether it doubles (approximately) in 48 hours. If the HCG levels are rising appropriately then progesterone can help for a sticky pregnancy but unfortunately if they are not there is not much that can be done. Wishing her the best

Ask her to ask for the second beta level.. that's the number she needs to know. Progesterone can only help so much. It can't stop a miscarriage. It can help with the lining of the uterus, but needs to be taken during the luteal phase (right after ovulation) to really be helpful.

So my best friend got pregnant for the first time. They just started trying. Her family has a history of miscarriage so her doctor told her to go ahead and come in to check her levels. Long story short her levels hadn't risen a lot. It was 40 when she went in. She doesn't remember the second draw number cause she was really disappointed. They said her progesterone was low. It was 17 and it needs to be 21. They are putting her on supplements.

Will progesterone help the pregnancy stick and grow? I've never dealt with that side of pregnancy. We are just curious and wondering. She thinks it won't stick and is assuming she will miscarry.
