@LAZB: I haven’t heard my full results yet, she just said she’d call if I needed a different antibiotic which I clearly don’t! The first analysis said I had an infection.

I’m much better today but still only at like 30-40%. At least I know I’m improving. I also had a consult with an OB for my VBAC today and she said it was totally normal to still be bleeding and that I should see a drastic improvement by tomorrow so that helped eased my mind a lot!

@Mrs. Marshmallow: got my results overnight. Looks like the urine sample came back with no bacteria or nitrates, but I had elevated WBC, RBC, leukocytes, and trace protein. The urine culture however had E. coli, so it is a UTI.

@Mrs. Marshmallow: usually day 2 is better (mild discomfort), day 3 even better and then I feel normal after that. I'm sorry you're dealing with this!! I wouldn't wish a UTI on anyone, ever!

@Mrs. Marshmallow: I haven’t heard anything, but no symptoms today, so I think the antibiotics are working! I hope your discomfort is over soon, hopefully by tomorrow!

@JennyLayneAZ: Just curious how long it typically takes for the blood to clear up once on antibiotics. I've taken two pills now, and would love to have an idea of when this agony train might let up

@LAZB: have you heard anymore? how are you feeling?

@LAZB: ah shoot. I’m sorry I hope your results are in soon. Things just get worse and worse here so I’m hoping that I find out soon. I’ve gone from I don’t want more antibiotics to GIVE ME THE DRUGS in a matter of hours. I hope you feel better soon. Sounds kind of similar to how mine has progressed. I felt it coming on on Friday but I thought maybe it was a yeast infection because that’s what I’m prone to.

@JennyLayneAZ: That makes me feel so much better thank you for sharing. I’ve had 3 or 4 of those teeny blood clots and I was starting to wonder if I was losing it and if it was coming from my vagina. So that makes more sense

Following! I am 28 weeks and also suspect I have a UTI, and I have only had one in my life before. I started having issues with the frequency and urgency on Friday, but no burning. I called in, but they wanted me to give a sample and I was out of town so I couldn’t. They said since I didn’t have burning it probably wasn’t a UTI. Cut to yesterday morning and I had light bleeding visible, and apparently a decent amount of blood in my urine when I went in for an appointment. They tested for nitrates and it was negative, which apparently it is usually positive if it’s a UTI. They put me on antibiotics because there is no visibly seen blood in my vagina during an internal check I called in, but they wanted me to get a sample and I was out of town so I couldn’t. They said since I didn’t have burning it probably wasn’t a UTI. I’ve had on and off urgency and frequency ever since, but no more bleeding. Apparently the test for bacteria it takes three days which I find shocking! I’m anxious because I want to make sure it hasn’t progressed to a more serious infection. Also, when I was in labor with two of my three previous kids it felt like a similar sensation, so that makes me nervous too.

I always have blood in my urine when I have a UTI. Mine usually progress quickly; from the first sign of irritation to peeing little blood clots out is usually within 4-6 hours. Antibiotics are the only thing that work for me. Hope you feel better soon!

@Petitduck: thanks! I did speak to my midwife and I'm going to get a urine sample done in half an hour. So I'll know more tomorrow. She's on it thankfully!

@Becky: Thanks that's very good to know. I don't have a fever as of now thankfully -- and definitely monitoring closely!

Blood isn’t normal for utis. Can you call your doctor? I know when pregnant the midwife usually refers me to my doctor if it is not pregnancy related.

I did a phone appointment to get antibiotics a few weeks ago.

If you have blood in your urine, you should be on an antibiotic. That's really the point where it can progress to a kidney infection which you definitely don't want to mess with.

For future reference: I have had many UTI's. I can only nip it in the bud myself if I catch it very early on (like at the first tickle) and drink copious amounts of water and cranberry juice.

I think I'm experiencing my first UTI... and waiting to hear back from my midwife.

Would love some tips. I'm 32 weeks tomorrow and already had to go on antibiotics in January for a sinus infection that wouldn't go away... so I'm a bit nervous about antibiotics before because there is some evidence about later antibiotics and baby infections.

I have been having a bit of pressure having to pee more and a bit of a sting for a few days, but yesterday I was wondering if I might have been getting a yeast infection... then last night I started having to pee more frequently and connected that I might have a bit of blood in my urine. This morning I was a bit of a mess, constantly have the pressure and urge to pee, and have since been drinking water non-stop, but still have a bit of blood in my urine.

This is completely new territory for me... is blood normal for UTIs or super concerning? Does it sound like I"m going to need antibiotics, or can I potentially still ward off with water?

Thanks!
