I think that you could just go one size up and then get further alterations of necessary. Most decent quality bridesmaids dresses will have an inch or two on either side that can be let out and they could do that around the belly.

I will be a bridesmaid at 18 weeks and ordered one size up. I'm also going to be a bridesmaid at 34 weeks and I'm orderding a maternity version of the dress (well, it is similar to the dress). I'm going to the bridal shop tomorrow to order it.

I'm in a wedding next weekend at 7 months pregnant. Luckily we got to choose our own dresses (Amsale bridesmaid line, lots of different styles). So I chose a v-neck empire waisted dress and went THREE sizes up. Thank goodness I did because now at 7 months all that needs to be done is the shoulders have to be taken up. It's pretty shameful that the high waist doesn't have to be taken in, but I'm just thankful that the dress is super comfortable and actually pretty flattering.

@Darling: What style dress is it?

So long as I wore an empire waist top, I didn't have to change sizes at all during my pregnancy. Empire waist dresses were great!

@Darling: Oh, good plan! I would go up two sizes just in case.

Edit: I should also note that I'm purchasing 2 dresses- 1 my normal size and the other a larger size. It's from Nordstroms so I can return the one that doesn't fit closer to the wedding date :)

2 sizes up would probably be the safest bet (plan for the most exreme change, just in case), although it may also be helpful to know the measurement differences between the sizes, too. You sure are juggling quite a few variables here(!), i.e., whether you are pregnant, (and if so, how far along you will be); whether you will gain weight (and if so, how much); whether or not you will be showing by then (I was barely showing at 20 weeks, although I had gained weight), etc. Good luck!

That's a hard one. I wouldn't want to have to pay for all of those alterations if you buy a big dress and you aren't pregnant.

Oof, I don't know if it's a good idea if you aren't pregnant yet. You don't know how long it will take.

Especially because just getting a larger size may just totally not work on a pregnant belly, it may need to be altered around the belly to be a more maternity friendly shape. Perhaps you can buy one several sizes larger and then just plan on having it tailored?

My friend just asked me to be her matron of honor. Yay!

My husband & I are going to start trying for a baby again in June. My friend's wedding is in late October, so in theory I could be up to 5 month pregnant by then.

Unfortunately I have to order my dress to wear at the wedding now, so my question is...should I order 1 size or 2 sizes larger than my normal size? I'm not sure how large a 5 month belly is in respect to fitting in normal clothes. I should also mention that the dress is form-fitting/sheath style.
