@erinpye: oh that sounds an awful lot better! I hate taking the rotten things but feel so guilty when I skip one, I'll have to try the fruity ones!

I just take Centrum's chewable multivitamin. It's what I've always taken and when I took the bottle to my first midwife appointment to see if it would suffice, she said it had everything in it that I needed. I don't swallow pills very well, so I've loved just sticking with what I know.

Your doctor or midwife, though, should have some good solutions for you for something that your stomach can handle but also gets you what you need!

@aunt pol: They make a strawberry flavored one! It's by Nordic Naturals I think, and strawberry burps are much better than fish burps :)

I had a hard time with vitamins too. I tried 3 different types before settling on one that worked for me. Currently I take Citra Natal Harmony but its not available over the counter, you would need a prescription for it.

With my first pregnancy prenatal vitamins made me super nauseous so I took gummy bear vitamins, extra B12, and extra folic acid. The gummy bear vitamins I took were really good. I think they were flintstone gummy vitamins. My OB took exactly the same thing because she was super nauseous when she was pregnant. So I felt safe taking these.

I haven't taken a separate folic acid supplement, but I'm thinking I might have to switch to that and a regular vitamin. I was thinking about picking up regular gummy vitamins. I think it is the sugar coating on the ones that I am taking that I just can't handle. I was heaving this morning while trying to get them down....no fun!

You have my every sympathy! I don't gag on mine but the fish oil capsule gives me the most horrible indigestion and I've come extremely close to vomiting when I burp - that awful taste! Missing a day or two of them wouldn't do any harm if you wanted to gie your tummy a break. Most people will forget the odd one anyway.

Those ended up making me gag, too. I agree with the multi and a folic acid supplement, or if you eat enough folic acid in your diet you can probably just take your multi (that's what my OB told me). Also, the flintstones chewables might be easier on your tummy/ gag reflexes. I feel your pain, good luck!

Can you do a separate folic acid supp and just do a regular multivitamin?

I would talk to your doctor about what a good option is for you. I've heard of people just taking regular chewable multivitamins because it's better to have that then nothing.

I take the Target brand prenatals and they are smaller(ish) pills compared to others. I have no stomach issues when taking them.

Try Rainbow Light Petites. You have to take 3 pills vs. 1 pill, but they are smaller and thinner than regular pills so they are not bad to get down. They also have natural stuff in them to help calm your stomach and not upset it.

The gummy ones make you gag? How come? I mean, is it the taste? Maybe you can try cutting the gummies up into smaller pieces and then chewing them?

I take the gummy prenatal vitamins because I have a very hard time taking large pills, but just this week, they have started to make me gag when I take them. My stomach has been off and I think it is very important to get those vitamins in due to a lack of balanced diet but I'm getting to the point where I can't handle them anymore. Does anyone have any prenatal vitamin recommendations?
