It took 1 year for him to get comfortable going to school when we started at 18 months. We just changed schools and he has been saying "no sorri" (for Montessori). Yesterday was a great day where he has no crying when I took him.

LO won't go to preschool until she's at least 3, she's 2 now. I'm dreading that day.... I know crying at drop off is normal but that doesn't mean I want to see my baby cry :(

Although my son is younger (1.5), I think crying at drop off is completely normal! The daycare teachers at our centre said it usually lasts ~2 weeks. With that said, my little guy still cries every Monday 3.5 months after starting daycare but is happy as a clam the rest of the week. He is also super happy when I pick him up and it often takes us 10+ minutes to leave because he doesn't want to stop playing.

It gets better!

My son started day care at just over 2 and the first two weeks were tough, he'd have good days and bad days, with crying at drop off and also at pick up!

I do think it takes them a bit of time to learn what they're supposed to be doing there, which is where the ambivalence comes in.

I think that's pretty normal and if anything on the good side of the spectrum.

Lala cried for the first 2 weeks of school (started at age 2). She loves her school and always stopped crying right after drop off.

M. didn't cry the first 2 days. She did cry yesterday. We'll see how long it takes.

Crying at the drop off transition means that your child has a normal healthy attachment to you. Their mood on pick up is more indicative of how the day went :)

If you sent your toddler to school around age 2/3, how was the adjustment period?

I know it's early but we are on day 4 today of preschool and he is ambivalent at best. I know this is good stimulation for him but it makes me sad to think he may not be having a great time. He cried the first day when I dropped him off and a tiny bit the second day but since then he's just protested without crying....
