Is there any particular reason why you won't be sending her to preschool? I think the year before K might be an important year to brush up on skills needed for K, so just wondering if there's a reason why you chose not to.

Wee folk art has a free version of a literature based, waldorf inspired pre-k/k curriculum. We are using it as the starting point for planning homeschool kindergarten.
Here is the fall session: http://weefolkart.com/harvest-time-preschoolkindergarten-curriculum/

If she'll be entering K the following year, I'd plan to read a lot--aim for a minimum of 30 minutes per day, although that can be broken up--and maybe do some basic phonics instruction, but at least cover the letter sounds. Spend much more time reading to her than teaching to read. Seriously, if you're doing more than about 10 minutes a day on reading instruction, it's too much at this point. Count, do "everyday" math like adding up groups of things, and go over the way we write numbers.

I'm not really an arts and crafts person, so I took LO to story time at the library occasionally for that type of thing, although to be honest, I think that the best way to do art for little children is to give them markers/paint/crayons and paper and let them do their thing. So don't bother with Pinterest crafts if that's not your cup of tea. Playdough, glue sticks, craft paper...all that stuff is great, but I would let her do what she wants with it rather than try to direct the outcome.

And most importantly: Spend LOTS of time outside! Go to the park, walk around, swim, climb trees, whatever you find fun. You really can't spend too much time outside with little children.

Has anyone done preschool at home with their LO? We won't be sending our LO to preschool this coming year but I plan to work with her on things at home. Nothing like sitting down and drilling her with things, but making sure we have some sort of structure to the day. I want her to be prepared for the follow year of school. I want to get her out at least once a week to a zoo, museum, library, new park etc. She will not be in any extracurricular activities though, so our week will be pretty open.

Any ideas for me? Share whatever you think would be helpful!
