@Mrs. Pen: We are trying to figure this out right now. Exploring all of our options. We are wait-listed for a pre-school/daycare that goes from 8-6. They also do pre-k for 4-year-olds and have a daycare for babies upstairs. Do you have daycares in the area that also have a pre-school program?

I am touring places that are late drop-off (at 9) and/or early pick-up, some as early as 3:45, some at 5. We're going to see what works best for us price wise and also what actually has a spot for us. If we have to hire someone to pick her up we may see if our current nanny can do it or find someone who can help us. I'd prefer not to have to hire someone new so I am hoping for one of the places that has an extended day program.

@Mrs. Pen: my LO goes to a center that has both daycare and preschool...so that is what we are doing. If she was in a home center we really liked, I'd probably just leave her there are work on educational things at home. If you are up for transferring to another home daycare, you may be able to find one that is more of a preschool. There is one by me that is like that. They have a separate caregiver for the two infants they take, and then a teacher for the preschool age kids. It's in home though, and there's only 5 or 6 kids.

If it were me I would just keep him where he is happy and then send him to pre-k at 4. But I don't have personal experience yet since LO is still a baby! ;)

@yellowbird: yeah we may just do the same. Push it out a year... The lady who watches him does so many educational activities in addition to outings and playmates so I definitely don't think it'll hurt him in the long run ;)

@Mrs. Pen: I was debating this for the coming fall. My lo will be 3 in september. She loves the lady that watches her and her best friends are there and I really can't switch her right now! She's so happy. I'm going to send her to preK at 4. They have all day options, I think she'll do fine there and be a little more mature.

@Corduroy: we originally had J in a daycare and he didn't do well. I don't want to put him back in a center. Plus we, and especially he, LOVES the lady that watches him. And she is more affordable than a center.

We plan to use a pre-school with an all day daycare option. That's common in my area. Is that not an option?

For those of you who have LO's in home daycare - what do you do for preschool?

J will be three next month, so old enough for preschool this fall. But I don't know how I would be able to coordinate it because you have to drop them off/pick them up? And then there is the preschool cost on top of daycare... I'm thinking of having him start next year instead and figure it out then..

What did you do?
