@skiierchck99: yeah I'm just not ok with my child sleeping an inch off the floor where people walk with their shoes (with god knows what on the bottom of the shoes)

The pre-school kids bring in their own nap mats ( sleeping bag-ish) and those are set up on a thicker plastic mat you might find in a gym class. Every week parents take their kid’s mat home to launder. Naps take place in the same room the kids learn, play, and eat.

That is too much pressure to launder all the mats! I wouldn’t want my kids mat going to a possible home where smokers live.

@Meowkers: Giving everything to one family to wash is unusual, but the mats on the floor is very common, though you may be able to find somewhere that does cots. FWIW we did bleach them every day.

@Meowkers: The mat thing doesn't really bother me, they'd still be off the floor. The one family laundering everything is super weird, but seems like it would be easy enough to opt out of.

@petitenoisette: I agree. I just imagine someone throwing in bathroom rugs with my kid's sheets and it grosses me out. I also don't like he idea of my child sleeping practically on the floor (mat) where everyone walks in their dirty shoes.

@Meowkers: I would think it's weird to have one family launder everything. You'd think you could easily opt out of that if you wanted to. I wouldn't want a family that uses scented detergent washing my kid's blanket and sheet!

Thank you so much everyone for your feedback.

@birdofafeather: we toured a school that had mats on the floor in the classroom where the kids did everything else in. The sheets and blankets are sent home on Friday with one family to launder and it rotates to a different family every week. The whole sleeping and bedding arrangement really turned me off. My friend tried to tell me that's how all schools are so I decided to take a survey to see if my expectations are unreasonable.

They slept in the classroom - same place they played/worked/ ate (well technically they slept where they played since that portion had carpet)

DS is 22 months and has been to 3 daycares. At all of them (2 centers and 1 in home), he slept on a stackable cot (once he turned one) in the same room they are in all day. One place had us bring a sheet and blanket and at the other two, we just had to bring a blanket and they provided the sheet. I would take home whatever bedding we provided on Friday and bring it back washed on Monday. One place required the lights to be on, like full blast, during nap. I pulled him from that place after a month.

All the preschool (and older) kids sleep in the finished basement, which is a huge open space that is also used as the indoor playroom in bad weather. They have cots. We supply all bedding - sheets, blankets, pillows - which we bring in on Monday and take home on Friday to wash. Younger kids (so under 3) sleep in their classrooms on mats. Bedding is handled the same as above.

What are the sleeping arrangements at your child's preschool?
1. Stackable cot
2. In the classroom (no separate sleeping room) - the cots are set up during lunch
3. Everyone brings a nap mat (which looks like a mini sleeping bag with a pillow built in). Nappers are sent home on Fridays (or more often if there is an accident or other reason they need to be laundered).

School provides a mat and sheet. They number the mats so each kid uses the same one each day and wash the sheets weekly. We provide a blanket and wash as frequently as we think it's needed. The kids sleep in their room. The whole school takes naps at the same time, so they turn off all the room lights.

Daycare provides each kid with a little mat that looks like a gym mat. Each child sleeps on top of that mat in a nap roll (looks like a small sleeping bag) that the parent provides, plus any other blankets or loveys the child wants. The children sleep in certain classrooms that have been designated for naps (there are 3 larger rooms so the kids sleep in those rooms). The teachers sit in the dark classrooms with the kids for 2 hours.

Nap rolls get sent home every Friday to get washed (unless they get really dirty before then).

ETA: the kids get assigned a specific mat with a label on it so they always sleep on the same one. They are sanitized by daycare staff but they want to prevent any germs spreading between mats.
