Try not to worry too much about the transition and keep the end goal in mind - if you love the new school so will your son! We moved 6 months ago to a different state and away from our old nanny and a daycare that DS (almost 4 had been at over a year.

He was really bonded with the nanny, his teachers and the students, BUT we got lucky that his new school is so much better in every way. He loved the teachers right away and took a couple months to warm up the entire class, but his transition was really a breeze. We had 2 short (required) visits as part of the transition. He only had 1 or 2 actual bad drop offs in the first few weeks. He loves school even more now!

A few months before my DD turned 4, we moved to a new country, and obviously a new school. She’s also one who is very shy and who had been at the same daycare since she was 1. We talked about the move/transition frequently with her leading up to it. It was a little scary the first few days, but she settled in quickly. We had the opportunity to visit the new school the week before school started with all the other new families and met someone with a daughter who was going to be in the same class, so on the first day she already had someone she knew. This girl has turned into one of my DD’s best friends. I would probably transition your two LOs at the same time, but start talking about it now with the older one, and see if you can visit at some point closer to when the transition will happen.

I had this same fear when my son moved from daycare to kindergarten - he was 4.5, he’d been at the same daycare since he was 1, everybody he knew was there, and he’s super shy and reserved. Turns out he was fine, it barely phased him - I think maybe stuff like this causes us more stress than it does them.

We just found out we finally got off the waitlist for this amazing (and MUCH cheaper) daycare for my two youngest kids, and now of course I’m nervous about the transition! DS1 is 4, DS2 is 11 months. I know DS2 will be fine because he’s super easygoing and not super attached to his current teachers, but DS1 has been at our current place his entire life and really loves his current teacher. I’m hoping to push the transition for DS1 out until June, and move DS2 first, so that DS1 can warm up to the idea of the new school and it won’t be such an unknown once it’s time for him to go there. I know the new place is a much better preschool, I’m just worried for him since he’s been with his current classmates since they were babies!

Any other tips or advice are much appreciated!
