Just commiserating!

Almost 5 year that co-slept with at least one of us since birth, recently moved to bunk bed with her sister and she has been coming into my bed every night! I need to implement that walk back to bed thing but I'm too pregnant/tired to deal with it lol.

My daughter is 4.5 and went through a similar spell about a month ago. I feel like every six months or so, something throws a wrench in her bedtime and we have to tweak our routine... :)

What's working for us now, is that after I tuck her in, I tell her I'll be back to check on her ten minutes. She seems reassured that I'm coming back that time. Some nights, she's still awake and other nights, she's already fallen asleep.

We did a bedtime pass for a while, but ended up moving away from it because she wet her pjs a few times because she'd used her pass earlier in the night and wouldn't leave her room after having used her pass. We tried to explain that a bathroom "emergency" was okay without the pass, but that got tricky and lots of things became "emergencies" in her mind. Ugh! Now we're back to a place where she just takes herself to the bathroom if she needs to.

Around that age we implemented a “bedtime pass” It was a physical pass that he could use to get out of bed when he needed to, but we would take it the first time and he couldn’t use it again. It cut waaaay down on the getting up for random things.

Thanks guys! I’m not sure an earlier bedtime would work for our schedule. Some nights were not home til 7:30. :bummed:

I would also move bedtime earlier. Even just to allow for time for him to to get out of bed, but still be asleep at his usual time

@macintosh: Since he isn’t napping I would push bedtime back to 730pm- no later than 8. He could be very tired and just acting out for attention and just not able to settle since it’s late.

DS is almost 4.5 and has been a pretty good sleeper. He's dropped naps completely for a few months now and goes to bed around 8:30 or 9. He normally sleeps through the night about 11 hours in his own bed and wakes around 7 am.

Last week we had family in from out of town and either the routine disruption or maybe a cognitive spurt has him fighting bedtime like crazy. Every night we do the same routine as usual, but he comes out of his room at different intervals asking for socks, potty, a certain stuffed animal, etc.

I tried the Super Nanny back in bed thing where I walk him back to bed with no discussion, but he's persistent on coming out 2-3 times every night. I've got a reward chart going and I want to add stay in bed to his list of "responsibilities".

What else would you do at this age? I wonder if promising to check on him would help. He's been saying lately that he doesn't want to be alone at other times, too.
