Yeah unfortunately it's genetics.

I'm super prone to stretch marks and I already have tons at only 21 weeks. I've accepted my fate lol!

Apparently my mom had them really bad... the fact that she still refuses to wear a bathing suit 30 years later makes me have to take her word for it. At 27 weeks I use Earth Mama Angel Baby stretch oil religiously after every shower and sometimes before bed. No stretchies yet but I'm patiently waiting to inevitably join the club :meh:

I'm in the genetics boat, I got very few stretch marks (all have since faded) and I sometimes used cocoa butter...but I wasn't very religious about it.

I only gained 17 pounds, but have a TON of stretch marks.

Got my first ones on my hips at 8 weeks when I was down ten pounds from where I started.

The only thing that prevents them is the genetic lottery or condoms.

I used the Mama Mio oil and body butter, both. Then after I started getting stretch marks, on top of that I started using Palmer's and Mustela stretch mark cream....basically I brought out the big guns and was going at it 4 times a day.

and I got tons of stretch marks. So Yup, spent a small fortune to no avail. *shrug*

I didn't get any stretch marks on my belly but some on my thigh where I didn't us it... So maybe it worked?

I used the Rite Aid generic version of Bio Oil religiously, and didn't get a single stretch mark on my stomach. I did get them on my breasts though after my milk came in - OMG, at least the bump grows slowly, my bra size tripled two days after delivery! - but I highly recommend Bio Oil or a knock-off.

@Mrs. BD: I am def of the view it's genetics, since I didn't moisturize and didn't get any, however getting them during puberty doesn't mean that you will get them while pregnant. Your skin loses elasticity when you get older, and the only good thing about that is that you are less likely to get stretch marks.

I am def a believer in the luck/genetics camp. I sparingly used cocoa butter in the beginning wks then got lazy. Gained 40 lbs and got no stretch marks, thank you mom!

I used cocoa butter and I never got stretch marks. My mom never got any from either of her pregnancies, so I think a lot of it is genetics. The cocoa butter helped the itching at the end though.
