@Smurfette: our house came with standard cheap blinds for all the windows (except our big giant dining room window it had some kind of a cheap paper material) which my husband proceeded to break one by one, so we "splurged" for the plantation shutters just recently. My in-laws, who lived with us after being displaced by Sandy while their house was being renovated, got white plantation shutters all over their house and it was actually very reasonably priced because they didn't opt for the all-wood ones, they have these combination ones that are much, much cheaper, and lasts forever, and you absolutely cannot tell the difference whatsoever! I think they are vinyl or vinyl combo, something like that. We got the same ones and they are being installed in 2 weeks - you should look into the same, they are definitely not anywhere as expensive as the all-wood ones.

@regberadaisy: well, the former owners did an inside mount of their mini blinds and they actually cut the trim to fit the hardware. I was so angry when I saw that!

I went to a brick and morter store, the lady was super nice, even though we didn't buy any of her products!

@looch: oh gosh, that's a nifty idea to make your windows seem bigger! I wonder what s/he would suggest for ME??? I really wanted to do a inside mount but unfortunately we don't have enough depth for that. So we're going outside mount but I really don't want the windows to get any bigger. But mounting on the frame might be silly.

@regberadaisy: My windows are super tiny, like less than 40 inches wide, so I got an opinion from a designer, to hang the shades 5 inches from the ceiling and do at least 4 inches over the trim on the sides. So, in one room we have 48 inch wide and in another we have 44. Otherwise we would have had to go custom and I just can not do that in this house, lol.

$48 seems like a good price per window, I'd be tempted to go that route, because you won't spend less than $100 per shade.

@looch: omg I love those ruffle roman shades! Unfortunately, we have weird windows! 5'0" wide by 35" high so we need custom. We're thinking about going the faux wood blind route. Wayfair can do them for $48 each window.
I guess with the roman shades I could technically do two?? Yikes, never mind. It'll be $46 per shade for the ruffles. But I'm going to browse that site for rods and sheer curtains!

@regberadaisy: what are you getting? I just got cordless roman shades from Country Curtains, and I love them more than the Harper ones from Pottery Barn Kids.

We just had to buy blinds for the whole house. DH really wants plantation shudders, which no way we can afford right now. So we went with these for the time being. I wanted the 2 1/2 inch ones but the 2 inch fit better on the windows. They look great on the windows and will work for a couple years till we can upgrade. Home Depot will cut them down for you to the size that you need.

We got the black out shades on the roller and they broke. So stupid and a huge waste. We should have returned them to lowes when we could have but with a newborn it got too late.

We bought ours from Home Depot, they have good prices and I believe if you do more than 3 rooms is $100 for installation.

We bought the shade for the office (which is now my son's nursery). It's a wooden blind and it was around $100. It was expensive, but IMO it was worth it - it looks very nice and blocks out most light.

I need to find blinds or shades for the nursery real soon. But they are sooooo $$$!!!

How much did you pay for yours and what was the size? From where?
Just wondering if I'm being unrealistic for what I want to pay.
