@Anagram: So glad to hear!! I agree; with everything there is to do, I don't even think we're gonna do the actual park. Thinking of just doing the water park (it's small but they will be 5 & 3 so it's plenty for them), chocolate world, butterfly garden and probably just swing by the museum since it's included. They have a holiday lights drive thing that we'd do also.

Kinda also want to use this trip to scope the place out so maybe we'll return in the summer! The girls are not huge on rides so we haven't really considered Hershey, but I def didn't realize there's so much to do!

@graceandjoy: My kids love Hershey Lodge! They have some on-site restaurants that are totally fine, and tons of fast food/chain stuff nearby in the town. They loved Hershey gardens and the butterfly sanctuary (or whatever it's called), but we went in either spring or fall, so it was nice out. Winter, it might not be as fun. I think that's a decent deal for Christmas time. Are you going to go to the actual Hershey park? If you sign up for their mailing list, they send out ticket deals and stuff all the time.

I don't know how old your kids are (mine were pretty young when we went), but we were there for a long weekend and between the indoor water stuff, exploring Hershey hotel for a few hours, going to Chocolate world and Chocolate Experience, and then doing the gardens, we didn't have time for anything else! I think we ate breakfast at one of the on-site restaurants every day.

And I think I remember they had a small arcade, and my kiddo won like 800 tickets on some game so we cashed out on a bunch of cheap crap and were handing it out to other kids that were in the arcade, lol.

Sometimes they have little package/specials, but maybe they aren't available during the holiday season--I think ours was a "kids stay, play, and eat free" package, which meant we got Hershey beach towels, restaurants vouchers for the kids (2xday), and something like a $50 arcade credit. The kids were thrilled.

Have fun! There's an antique car museum somewhere around there, too.

@wrkbrk: Oh totally. It will give me some time to replenish vacation fund anyway. I don't know when I'll be able to afford a plane vacation when 5 people need plane tickets :silly:

@graceandjoy: My general and honestly completely arbitrary rule of thumb is if a weekend trip (3 days 2 nights) for our family of 3 is at or around $1000 I’m cool. Haha.

@Ajsmommy: That makes me feel better, haha! I haven't decided yet if we're gonna do Christmas at the park so I haven't factored in the exact ticket prices for everything we'll end up doing. I think I'm just gonna book it for now; if I read correctly I only have to cancel 3 days prior to get my deposit back!

@graceandjoy: yes I think this is reasonable. We went to Hershey last month and spent about that much (total) on just one day/night! LOL

For us, we set a budget of $100 housing per night, $40-$50 for food daily, and activities can be all over the place depending on if it's a nature-based vacation (national parks) vs. amusement parks.

I don't really consider gas to ever be a dealbreaker bc there's not much you can do about that price other than loyalty credit cards.

We usually stay at AirBnBs instead of hotels. We also almost never rent cars, not opposed but just haven't.

@Mrs. Champagne: Nope! She is on Christmas break! DD2 will come out of school but it's just pre-school. And I already took off work prior to thinking about this trip. I don't WANT to travel during school breaks but my PTO is SO limited

@MamaBear87: That's true! We just haven't traveled much so I'm totally agonizing over this!

I don’t think it’s too bad! Would you pull her out of school to go?.. I know some places that’s a definite no no, but here everyone does it. I don’t know anyone who travels during school breaks, lol.

@MamaBear87: Oh yes the room of course! I know... I feel like this really isn't bad for right after Christmas, but the penny pincher in me is like uggh normally it's not this expensive!

Assuming that includes rooms? If so I don't think that's a bad deal at all. Especially for Christmas time

We haven't gone on any big vacations so I'm a little rusty in figuring out if this is at least a fair/acceptable price or not.

Planning to go away for 2 nights 12/26-12/28, so I already know I'm not really getting any good deals, if anything most places I've been looking at are hiked way up!

This is for Hershey, PA! So it's more or less $600 for 2 nights for 2 adults and 2 children (5 &3). Includes admission to their small indoor water park, admission to 2 places (just not the main Hershey park). I foresee spending roughly another $200 on meals & other activities that require tickets.

I know there are way better deals but given the dates constraint (now that DD1 is in public school we are really stuck traveling during school breaks), this at least is better than some places that are charging over 1K for 2 nights.

So would you go for this? Or is it way too overpriced and I should keep looking?
