@swedishfish: You know, I didn't even ask that. So I'm honestly not sure about whether or not I'll know which med it is? My husband and I were just talking about that last week actually. And we realized we never were told and didn't ask, so we have no idea! I'll ask next week at my hysteroscopy if I think of it.

@Jenn23: do you get to find out after the cycle which medication you were actually on? I'm so hopeful for you!

@littlek: I know...I'm in shock. We were planning on June but my RE said we'd go with whenever I got my period.

@swedishfish: Thanks! I'm doing an IVF study (Afolia, new med being compared to Gonal-F). This is the 3rd phase of the study so we get free meds plus a $2,000 discount by doing it. So I'll start with Lupron, then add in either of the two (won't know which one beforehand). Only thing is we can't do a 5 day transfer and can only transfer 2 (per study) so we do have some restrictions. But they've had great success with this new med (results were pretty much the same, actually a little better with the new medicine in the first two phases). Not looking forward to all those needles again, though! Wow, you are less than three weeks away!!!!

@swedishfish: All the best to you with this exciting FET! That's great you only have to do the PIO injections this time. :) How long until the transfer? A few weeks? So exciting!

@Tidybee: So sorry to hear. :( I hope you get pregnant very soon! :)

@bhbee: Sorry to hear about so many chemical pregnancies. :( I hope the Femara does the trick for you!!

I am scheduled for my hysteroscopy in 8 days, then my DH has to do his sample. Assuming all is good, I will start the BCP at the end of May during my next cycle, then start the IVF meds 21 days later. So it looks like our retrieval/transfer should be around late June/early July. Ahh! So excited!

Can't believe I missed this thread the first time!

@septca: I find in some ways the first time is harder because you didn't know when/if you would ever be a mother, but the second seems harder in that I feel extra broken - all those stories of people who are magically cured after giving birth and succeed quickly the second time - not me. And treatments are taking longer which I didn't expect. I also feel guilty about feeling sad when I do have one perfect LO.

My #1 story: knew I wasn't ovulating when I went off the ring to switch bc before we got married. Never went back on bc and we half heartedly tried for a while. Diagnosed with pcos and eventually ended up on clomid. Did 4 cycles of clomid with ti, 3 pregnancies, first two chemical. 4th cycle we upped to 100mg and got a sticky baby.

Started trying for #2 right after I weaned at 18mo. Got pregnant on my own quickly but another chemical and I decided to go to the re again. They made me repeat everything but the chemicals remain unexplained beyond mild pcos. Did another 4 rounds of clomid, 2 at 50 and 2 at 100. Had 4th chemical pregnancy in there which broke my heart - found out right around lo's 2nd bday. The 100 didn't work and seemed to be destroying my lining. Just finishing a no meds cycle - although I started metformin this year - looks to be bfn. We are moving and I hope to try femara with the new re but if it doesn't work after a couple cycles we will probably do Ivf.

@Jenn23: apparently I start tomorrow! AF reared her ugly head this morning. I have to call today (of course I'd get my period on a Sunday!) and go for blood work and a sono tomorrow morning. My protocol is taking Estrace orally to prep my lining and then adding in other oral meds and PIO injections right before the transfer. The PIO injections are the only needles this time. Woohoo!

@Happygal: thanks for the good wishes! Good luck to you! :goodluck:

Road to conceiving LO #1:
After not getting pregnant or any BFPs for 10 months, DH and i both went through testing, and all looked normal so I was given a diagnosis of unexplained infertility. My doctor noticed on my temp chart that I was ovulating but I had a shorter luteal phase and my temp began dropping soon after I ovulated, so she prescribed progesterone. A few months of that didn't work, so we switched to Clomid to strengthen ovulation. We had a failed IUI, and we basically gave up. We had the opportunity to go to Paris for a long weekend which was right at the time I was due for IUI #2. I couldn't risk giving up Paris AND then not getting pregnant, so we bagged IUI #2 and went on vacation instead. I ended up getting pregnant naturally in Paris (but on Clomid(. DD is now 18 months old.
Road to conceiving LO #2:
We decided to start NTNP when DD turned 1. We weren't in a huge rush but we knew it could take a while since DD took over a year. We had good timing for 3 cycles but no luck. When I started spotting in February, I figured it was AF again, but the spotting stopped and I took a test and it was a BFP! We were shocked and thrilled. Then the spotting started again and I went to my doctor to see if it could have been a progesterone issues. HCG was doubling, progesterone was fine, but it was still too soon to see anything on an ultrasound. They monitored my hcg over the next 2 weeks and it kept doubling, but I went in for an ultrasound at 7 weeks and there was nothing but an empty sac. I had a D&C the next day, and we took the next cycle off. We just finished the first month of actively trying since the BFP but no luck.
So I sit and wait...

@KT326: I have borderline PCOS too and I've been on Metformin for almost two years. I started on 1500 mg a day. I was bumped up to 2000 mg a day in September and that's when I started ovulating every so often on my own. Good luck! :goodluck:

I'm 13 DPO and got a :bfn: . Now I need my period to get here so I can start my FET. I'm slightly disappointed but also ready to move on.

I'm glad this thread was started! We are just starting to talk about TTC #2. I may not have as many updates since we aren't actively pursing TTC or treatments but it's nice to know that it's here

Road to conceiving LO#1:
I've always known I would have trouble conceiving because I had a non-existent cycle (like one period at 15 and that was it). After DH and I had been married a year we wanted to start TTC. My OB gave me a referral to an RE, who did a few blood tests and started me on Clomid. I wasted a good 8 months with that office. They never did an HSG or SA. Finally when open enrollment came around at work we switched insurance providers and I was able to change RE's to a very reputable place. We spend a couple months going through more testing and finally started IUI with injectibles. Our second one worked. DS is now 2!

Since I stopped breastfeeding my body has been trying to have a period. I've had spotting almost every 30-40 days for the last year. I'm going to call my OB to see if he can run some tests and see if my body is starting to work. I also want to see if Metformin is an option as I have been told I am borderline PCOS (out of 6 doctors that I have seen throughout all this, 3 have said yes I have it and 3 say I don't. Talk about frustrating!)

If nothing happens by the end of the year we will be pursuing treatments again.

@septca: Sorry to hear your latest news. :( I hope in the next few months you have your lucky cycle so you don't have to pursue IVF. The fact that you have one good tube is great!!! I only have one tube and it is completely filled with fluid, so we have 0 chance without IVF. I think your body is working the way it should and you will have success very soon! :)

@swedishfish: Joining and bumping this thread for you.

Road to conceiving LO #1:

A few months after ditching BCP, started having excruciating pain around O and very light AFs. Ignored it, kept TTC. Finally saw a doctor and she and my husband convinced me to have a laparscopy to diagnose endometriosis (around cycle 10). Diagnosis confirmed, endo removed from around both ovaries and tubes. Discovered that both tubes had been blocked from day 1 of TTC. Cleared one tube during surgery, got pregnant soon thereafter.

Road to conceiving LO #2:

Went on BCP to control endo shortly after DD was born - stopped taking it when she was 9 mo because I was having depressive side effects. HSG showed scar tissue and potential blockages on the bad tube, good tube is still open and clear. Had wonky cycles until I stopped BFing. Struggle to find the time and energy to achieve good timing while chasing after a toddler and working full time. Conceived on cycle 6, ended in a CP. Now moving on to cycle 7... if we don't get KU within the next few months, my doctor will start pushing IVF.

Mostly, I am having a harder time with TTC and my CP than I expected to... I feel like I already paid my dues and this just isn't fair. I know everyone feels this way, I am just venting.

Great idea, this thread!

After many infertility battles and surgeries, we finally found out that IVF was our only option.

IVF worked and our amazing son was born 9/28/12. We have no frozen embryos so in order to have a 2nd child, we have looked into starting over and doing IVF again in a few months. The entire process stresses me out to no end, but hopefully it will work again, since it did before!

Wish you all the best!

@LAZB: I am so, so sorry to hear about the loss of your son. I do hope you get pregnant this month so that he or she could share their birthday month with your son. :)

@swedishfish: Thanks for starting this!

@LAZB: I am so sorry for the loss of your son.

Road to conceiving LO#1:

We tried for 21 cycles (about 2 years), with 2 CPs along the way, before I became pregnant via IUI in April 2011. Unexplained infertility on my end, no issues on DH's end. DX with mycoplasma when my OB would do testing at the 12 month mark, but antibiotics cleared that up. L was born in January 2013.

Road to #2:
My period came back at 13 mo pp. Just OPK sticks right now - Just started my 3rd cycle since then. Thinking of getting back on the ol' charting now that L is sleeping through the night most nights. I'm just not sure that I want the intensity yet, you know? The RE won't take us back until we try for 6 months.

Road to conceiving LO#1: I decided to come off of BC in Feb 2012 to give myself a month or two to regulate before actively TTC. I then had my period for 3.5 months straight! This got my doctor to do BW and ultrasounds, but the only thing found was a small simple cyst. We actively TTC from June 2012, and with no luck, I had an exploratory laproscopy in Jan 2013. My doctor found stage IV endometriosis, but was able to clear it out. With still no luck and a short luteal phase, my doctor put me on Clomid in May 2013, and success! I had my son, "Q", a month early on January 11, 2014, but he was perfect. Sadly, he caught a virus when he was a week old and passed away four weeks later.
Now, on the road to TTC #2: On my first cycle PP. I finally Oed CD23, so I am 1DPO now. Don't want to get my hopes up, because I know how hard it was the first time, but if I did get pregnant this month, I would be due January 11th (Q's bday), which I think would be a cool sign from my angel.

@brady80:  Hugs. I was told about two months before she turned one that I'd need to stop breastfeeding and cried about it for days. I managed to hold out until she was 17 months though  . To be honest, my period only came back once I'd cut back a lot and this month is my first shorter month (all going well) and it coincides with weaning. It has been very sad though, A is so not ready to wean and still asks for it two weeks later. I just keep thinking that although it's not in her best interest in the short term, in the long term a sibling is absolutely better for her than breastfeeding. I hope you manage to find peace with the weaning process,I know it's hard.

@swedishfish: Thank you for starting this thread! It feels really nice to have somewhere to fit in

Road to conceiving LO#1:

I have never had regular periods so underwent full fertility testing a few months before getting married. I was diagnosed with thin type PCOS and told there was a 50% chance I'd need IVF and was honestly devastated. DH wasn't ready to try at that point so I started acupuncture to feel like I was doing "something". That regulated my cycles for the first time in my life and when DH was ready I did one cycle of monitoring at the clinic with ultrasounds and bloodwork, which resulted in A, now 17 months old

Road to conceiving LO#2: My period didn't come back until 15 months pp. I started acupuncture again, then had an appointment at the fertility clinic and was told I'd need to stop breastfeeding, which took me a long time to come to terms with, as ridiculous as that sounds. My first cycle was 41 days so I expected a long, long cycle this month. BUT this cycle is being monitored daily and I'm on day 11 with a 1.7cm follicle and good estrogen levels  . So, who knows what will happen this cycle but it's soooo good to see my body *might* be doing what it's supposed to.

Good luck to everyone trying this cycle too

@brady80: with your first FET did your RE defrost embryos until there were 2 good ones to transfer? My RE is going to keep defrosting embryos until there are 2 good ones. But now we have to decide what to do if there is somehow an extra defrosted embryo. My nurse assured me that this never happens but we have to decide anyway. Apparently some defrosted embryos can be refrozen? I didn't realize that.
