@mrbee: I just ran across the beexanga searching halo sleep sack vs grobag! Comparing similar products in blog posts might be a good path to explore. I've done lots of those searches.

<< @Mrs. Cowgirl: something I've wondered about - when you search things on google, often forum questions from baby center and other places come up a lot, but I think only once or twice has hellobee popped up... Is that by design of HB or the site is too small to come up at top of results? >>

@runnerd: Parenting sites (blogs and forums) have been around for years and years... so a lot of the keywords that people search for already have a lot of forum posts written about them! As we cover more and more niche topics on the blogs though, we're starting to get more and more inbound traffic from Google... over time, that should grow and grow.

There are some sites out there that have excellent content, like Kellymom... these will be tough to outrank on Google, unless we cover topics they're not covering. Then there are other parenting forums - often unmoderated - that aren't as high quality. I think that in the long term, these sites will fall in the Google rankings.

In any case, a huge amount of our traffic now comes from social media (especially Pinterest)... that traffic is attracted less to useful content, and more to fun/inspirational pictures/projects/DIYs. So to attract that content, we work to put out stuff like DIY projects and food recipes (those tend to do really well on Pinterest).

Since Google is pretty crowded these days on the parenting side, we've found that sites like Pinterest and StumbleUpon let us break through the clutter. It's amazing how things change with the times! We'll do our best to keep up and adapt.

And I'm hopeful that Hellobee will show up more and more in Google in the years to come!

Right, @Irene... It's not like Gold members know who all the Gold members are. At this time, lurkers can be Gold too...

I was careless when HB first launched and I liked them on FB... I do think a friend or two noticed that in their news feed and checked out the site... I used to post more regularly and I wouldn't be surprised if they figured out who I am on here. But, whatever... I don't mind too much since whatever I post, I imagine I'd be open to discussing it IRL too.

@irene: this is exactly my concern. With fb, I don't post much and am very careful about what I say. I try to be here as well. I would be horrified if someone IRL were on HB and a gold member and saw all kinds of photos linking me to posts I have made. Better policy for me would then be to limit what I post and no pictures, which negates the benefit of current gold feature. That's just me.. I am really private and have learned a lot about what I want privacy wise from posting on HB.

hmm you guys... so if you try to avoid someone, anyone that you know in real life to figure you out on hellobee, how could you know for sure that they are not already on the boards and won't join the gold membership? Then wouldn't you get more screwed because you are probably posting family pictures and spilling details about your sex life and what not because of the idea of "privacy"?

I too question what's the point of the added privacy... if you don't want someone to know about something, don't put it online. And don't bash anyone you know online! haha! I agree with OP that hellobee is already way more secure than facebook. But that's just me. Maybe I don't have enough friends like you guys do :)

I'm not sure if I was found out at WB or not, but I overheard a friend answering another friend about a good place to sell a wedding dress and she said WeddingBee.com. I was mortified as I posted some very personal things about something that dh were going through. I also posted quite a few bump photos. Maybe I should change my username and take my pic away??

I found someone I knew on the weddingbee waiting boards. She posted just enough info about her vacation to know that i was my friend.
She posted that she was engaged and i called to congratulate her. She was so freaked out and deleted her account.
She had posted some really personal stuff about her SO so I thought it was only appropriate i tell her that i read it. She was so freaked that if a friend randomly found her, her family can find her....so she deleted everything.

I've expressed concerns about privacy and photos before - I would be upset if one of my 'bump' photos was used in a pro-life ad after someone google searched since I'm pro-choice. I would be even more upset if my son's picture was used for well, anything. The likelihood of that happening is far greater (even if it is small) if I post here than on Facebook. There are lots of examples of this happening, some are funny (someone's Xmas card was used in an Asian grocery store window I think..) and some are awful (a gay couple's engagement photo was used in a homophobic political flier). So, I would be more likely to post baby photos under Gold since they're not search-able.

I changed my username to an anonymous one a few months back and asked Mr Bee to remove any pictures I'd posted that might identify me (eg pics with my face on) because I was worried that someone I know might stumble upon my posts via a random Google search (for example: breastfeeding questions). Once they see the picture of me they'd know I was Cherrybee and then they could look at my other posts - perhaps reading something personal I'd said about the TTC process or even my MIL! Of course, I'd never post anything I'd really, really not want anyone to see.... but it makes me super uncomfortable thinking that someone could link my stories about peeing on my hands or scheduling BDing to me IRL!!

It has always saddened me that I can't share pictures on HB - and in turn see pictures of people I speak to every day and have come to think of as friends (friends I've never seen!!). I'd like to be a bit more honest about myself, my life, job - but it was just too risky without an added layer of privacy protection.

So this happened to me... I use a pretty anonymous name and a picture from high school that like no one has seen and someone who has never even met me, found me. Her name is Val and she is my husbands, brothers girlfriends, best friend. It's all really psyho. But she supposedly found my profile here (and I've told no one about this site) and sent a link to some of my posts to all of my inlaws.

So it could happen. And I know my inlaws and their friends are psychos so that doesn't help but it can happen. I really don't care what they saw or if they still see me calling them a crazy bunch of no life idiots, but I've kind of stopped posting like POAS results or pregnancy timeline things. They will be the last people on the planet to know when I'm pregnant.

So ya, it happens :)
