@LindsayInNY: I made a fun cake for my friend's zoom reveal with her husband and their families over zoom.

https://www.bettycrocker.com/recipes/rainbow-surprise-inside-cake/ac4233e4-f5de-4750-ad6e-50fdf624d50b

I just used blue candy pearls instead of M&Ms. The top was yellow and gold.

@Shantuck: That’s awesome to hear! TTC stress is like no other, but the flipside makes it seem like distant past.... sort of. we are finally expecting #3 and I’m still nervous to get rid of the resources I used to get me through the rollercoaster!

@Nutella: hey friend! How have you been? Things are good! Baby 3 arrived in March. By some miracle, this baby was conceived with way less drama right before I turned 40. Feels so great to finally put an end to the ups and downs of TTC.

For babies 2 and 3, we emailed the attachment revealing the gender without looking at it to our favorite bakery and had cakes made (the first a cake with pink frosting once we cut into it and the second being a cookie cake with “it’s a boy” written in it). We did this with the older kids and it was a nice family memory that we took a video of.

We had a very simple private reveal. The ultrasound tech put the photo in a sealed envelope, and we opened it as a family
at a picnic. It was special without being over the top.

@LindsayInNY: fair enough! Googling gender reveal does bring up some extreme suggestions that aren’t exactly low-key 😂

I do like the idea of the cake, or cupcakes from a bakery if you’re comfortable with someone else finding out before you both...if you feel like eating cake it could be a winning idea! I feel like if there were balloons around the kids would get suspicious and start asking questions. :silly:

We did a family only reveal for #3 and put balloons in a box. That was probably the most exciting for my girls. But DH & I knew the gender already at that point.

@Nutella: Thanks! This would just be for us. We probably won't tell kids until we tell family (and we tend to wait a while lol). I want something in between crazy confetti cannons and just a paper note.

@theotherstark: Thanks! I thought of something like that. Or even something a friend could help with. No date from the doctor yet but per my period, April 21!

@smuckers: Aw the comic idea is cute!!

With DD my husband is actually the one who found out and got to figure out a way to tell me! He had a 1 week limit on timing, and he couldn't tell anyone we knew before me (though he could at the same time). He ended up drawing me a comic with the last panel telling me

With DS we were boring and found out together at the ultrasound

My friends had it written down and went out to lunch, gave it to the waitress, and asked her to bring a particular dessert depending on the sex - so like, tiramisu if it’s a boy and cake if it’s a girl.

You could get the sex written in an envelope, then give it to someone at a bakery (blue or pink frosting inside), or take somewhere to have them fill a helium balloon with colored confetti! Or, you could pick two outfits at a baby store, and hand the envelope to the cashier and tell them to pick the boy or girl outfit, and have them put the receipt in the box with it.

@LindsayInNY: congratulations!! I’m also following these ideas as I’m looking for the very same thing but to share with our kids after the 12w mark. DH is also into the low key let’s just open an envelope together but I think I want to do something fun/special for them! Keep us posted with what you decide!

We asked our midwife to write the gender on a piece of paper and then took it to our local grocery store bakery and asked them to make a cake with the filling either pink or blue. It was actually really fun to cut the cake with our 3 year old DD to reveal the icing colour inside (blue!).

For both kids only I was able to be at the anatomy scan (moving logistics, and then covid), so both times I did a private reveal for my husband. If you had a willing friend to help you could modify these and have both of you be surprised.

For baby 1, he moved across country a few weeks before me, so I sent him with two boxes that were identical on the outside, but on the inside we’re filled with pink or blue paper, confetti, stickers, etc. Then the day of I told him which box to open. For you, you could prep the boxes and give them to a friend. When she gets the envelope with the results, she then drops off the appropriate box on your front step.

For baby 2 we were both home, but he couldn’t come because of COVID, so I brought a gift bag and one girl and one boy onesie to the appointment. Before driving home I wrapped the right one up and had him open the gift. Similarly, you could give the options to a friend and she wrap up whichever one is needed.

Any fun gender reveal ideas to be done in private? Like after the early (10-12 week) testing. Something for just hubby and I. He's all "we can just hear it together" but 1. that's no fun and 2. this is the last time. We listened to a voicemail with 1, were team green with 2. Any ideas??
