This just occurred to me today as I was play nibbling LO's little toes. Thankfully there are other things that make her giggle uncontrollably... must try to stick to those!

(Wish you could bottle up baby chuckles to save for later, though...)

Oh goodness, flipping hilarious! Thank goodness he stopped though. Not sure how you would explain that to his future classmates and teachers. LOL!

Play biting backfired. Luckily like you advised me, once we stopped our LO stopped.

It is posts like this one (and one about play biting for a while ago) that make me think long term when I do something with DS. I've been really conscious of thinking about whether I would do something or want DS doing it in a year or two. I've stopped nibbling/play biting and I already am trying to phrase things in the way I would when he is older (like not asking "do you want to put your shirt on"). I know he doesn't get it now, but I'm trying to think ahead.

Nothing quite like that but sometimes I won't be thinking and just toss a magazine or something back on the table -- then the LO will start throwing stuff around. It's hard to think about all of your absentminded behavior and how the LO might pick up on the not so good ones!

@BoogieBea: Me too!!! I was so sad when Charlie bit someone at daycare... partly b/c I was embarrassed, but also because I just loved eating him up!

@BoogieBea: Aww, that's kind of sad though. Those little games are so much fun! I would playfully go "abba abba abba" to Charlie's stomach and pretend to eat him... he would laugh so hard!!

Of course though from that, he learned that it was ok to bite other people!

@mrbee: yeah that reminds me that I encourage my younger one (8 months, no teeth yet) to "bite my nose". I should probably stop that too.

DH encouraged play hitting and kicking when LO was younger. So LO got into a bad habit of just randomly hitting us. We quickly stopped all play hitting and he eventually stopped. He does still hit sometimes when angry/in tantrum mode though :(

For a while, I would jokingly ask Charlie: "Lick or no lick?" He would say, "No lick! No lick, Daddy!!" And of course, I would promptly lick him as he dissolved in laughter! Well in retrospect, I was training him to:

* Lick other people and,
* Ignore it when people said they didn't want to be licked.

This all backfired on me when Charlie started licking Bee late at night when she was putting him down (we've been trading off putting Charlie down, ever since he stopped going down easily). She told him to stop licking her, but he just kept at it. Doh!

All I have to say is: thank goodness he licked her, instead of one of his classmates or his daycare providers! Licking isn't the sort of thing you want your child to do to his peers and teachers!! I stopped doing it, and he followed suit shortly after.

What was I thinking?! Definitely not my best hour. Still, it was pretty funny. Lick or no lick??? Who wants to be licked! Well I enjoyed it at least.

Did you ever have fun with your LO that ended up backfiring?
