@lawbee11: Thanks so much for letting me know about that! I will add that to my registry, but $35.99 is definitely manageable even if no one gets it for my shower!

@twodoghouse: We love love love our Foscam. One of my favorite gear purchases. There's one on NBD for $35.99. Also, are you having a baby shower? You could register for one!

Thanks everyone! I'm glad that it sounds like one audio monitor would work while they share a room. I would love a video monitor but I'm not sure if it's in the cards right now due to the cost. Maybe if we find a good deal on one!

We used a video monitor with two cameras in the same room for the first 6 months or so of our kids lives. I liked the flexibility of being able to see them individually if I wanted, but we just left the camera/audio set to one crib overnight (rather than scanning) because it would pick up the sounds from both kids fine.

Then they split up into separate rooms and we just added a basic audio monitor for the second room so we could have simultaneous audio for them both.

Yes, we only have an audio monitor, the transmitter is next to the doorway- it is sensitive enough to pick up the white noise on the opposite side of the room.

Oh yeah, it'll pick up fine. You won't be able to tell which babe is crying, obviously, but we have a 15$ cheapie audio monitor and it is definitely sensitive enough to pick up the entire room's noise.

If you want something that pans, you can get a a Foscam. It's not a baby monitor per se, but functions in a similar manner.

I have a video monitor for my twins, but I would think that one audio one would pick up noises just fine for both of them. I know that when one is crying, I can hear it through our video monitor, even when the screen is on the opposite's camera, if that makes sense.

I don't think you'd need 2 audio transmitters in one room. But in your case, I'd prefer a video monitor or two, to see which LO was up,etc. if you had one that you could pan back and forth between the cribs would be great. Imho

I don't think you would be able to use two in one room, it may not get a good connection and get all staticky. One should work perfect!

I think it depends on your set up...I don't see why an audio monitor set between two cribs wouldn't be able to pick up sounds from both sides.

Is the transmitter the parent unit? If so, I don't think you'd need two of those either.

I'm trying to figure out what to do about a baby monitor for our twins. At first I was planning on a video monitor, so I figured we'd need to purchase a monitor + an extra camera. Then we decided to go with a regular audio monitor, but I'm not sure if we need still need two transmitters? The babies will be sharing a room and their cribs will be fairly close together. Will one monitor be able to pick up the sounds from both of them? Or do you think it's still necessary to get a monitor + extra transmitter?

(Also, I have no idea if "transmitter" is the right terminology here - hopefully yall know what I mean!)
