Currently I print our yearly photos yearly on Christmas or Mother's Day. I order in the same dimensions and orientations, and I put them in the same frames, on top of the old photos. That way, every year, I look through our old photos as I am moving the new ones in, and they are all stored safely. I also buy about 2-3 extra pictures, and picture frames, a year.

So, in other words, in our house we have:
One vertical 20x30 above our bed
One horizontal 20x30 in our hallway
Two horizontal 16x20s in the playroom / baby room
Two vertical 8x10s in the living room
Four 8x10s in the toddler bedroom, mixed orientation

So, on Black Friday, I ordered new ones based on that.

Tip: Frames at Goodwill are SO much cheaper. We bought a bunch and spray painted them all white to match. Some weren't sized perfectly but we just have an inch or two of space on each side, as if they're being matted.

I don't have the space for an extended gallery wall, so I put the old ones in an oversized scrapbook.

I have kept a few of my favorite photos up, 2 wedding, 2 from an engagement shoot, 1 from our 1 year anniversary, and another from 10+ years ago.

I have a gallery wall and the new photos go right in front of the old photos in the frame; I will sometimes reprint the old ones as 4x6's and put in a smaller frame I have up, but I don't get that done very often!

We get ours done yearly. I use them in our Christmas card and display 5 of them in a gallery wall (one family shot, one of DH and I, one of each kid individually, and one of the two kids together). They all get switched out every year and the old ones live on in our photo books (well, they will when I get around to making them). I have a few favorites from years past in frames around the house and at work.

I wonder about this too bc we get family photos yearly....as of right now we are only 4 years in so I have enough room to display them all and still have some from our wedding up too. However, I know at some point I'm going to have to remove some in order to replace them with new......... on the other hand we are moving into a bigger house next year sooooo i'll have move wall space to fill

Currently, sadly, we don't do anything with them. But my plan is to do a gallery wall and have it be a mix of professional and candid photos, from all different ages. For me it would depend on how many I had on display. Like, if I had 8 from the same photo shoot, I'd probably mix it up. But if I just had one or two I'd find more/different space for the new ones. I like the photos on display to show the full history of a family.

I’m trying to decide this too as we just got family photos this weekend. I don’t really think I can add frames to the current wall (going up the stairs), I’m not sure I want to take any of them down but I don’t really have another wall to pit new pictures.

I don’t know! We have a small gallery wall above a mantel, like about 9 photos, from one photo shoot after we moved to the house. I love the pictures we got this year but haven’t decided how or of to display them. I do include them in our yearly photo book though so at least they get off the computer that way.

...with the old ones when you get new ones? Add onto a gallery wall? Move to a less prominent spot in the house? Put away in storage?

Planning on doing family photos on an upcoming vacation...our last pro photos as a complete family are from when my now 4 year old was a newborn baby...we now have a third “baby” who is 2+ years, haha, so clearly it’s time...but they’re great photos. I enjoy having photos of my kids at all ages displayed, but probably don’t large ones that are multiple years old in places other people see them, right?
