I have never taken it for 10 days. My OB prescribed me 2 pills a day for 5 days and said *that* was more effective at bringing in a period sooner. She was right because in the 3x I had to do it, I always got a period within 36-72hours. I realize it is too late for that now:( but please mention it to your doctor next time around so that you're not waiting on a period for so long:( I have pcos too, and I know long cycles really stink. I'm sorry :(

I just talked to my doc.. he thinks since it worked the first two times it should have worked this time, so instead of prescribing me more he wants me to go in for bloodwork. I've had bloodwork done before and everything was in the "normal" range, so he thinks the progesterone should be working.

Also, I've taken multiple pregnancy tests... it's not that.

sooo I guess more waiting is in my future :(

The 3 or 4 times I took it I got my period 14 days after I started, just like clockwork.

@laughlines: I took the full 10 days and it took about 9 days after the last pill for my period to start.

@TheReelDeal: no, not yet. I think i have a thin lining as well, so that's probably why it's not working. I called the office again and they said someone will be calling back about a prescription... hopefully they call it in before the weekend!

Did you take another full 10 days or just 5 more? Did it take 2 weeks after the second dose?

@laughlines: The last time I took progesterone to start a period I had to take 2 doses. The first dose did nothing, no period after 14 days, so they gave me the second dose and that did the trick. My nurse thought perhaps I didn't have a lot to shed in the first place, so my body needed the extra time. Have you heard from your doc yet?

I have PCOS with very very long cycles. My first cycle off BC (a year ago) was over 100+ days and I was then prescribed progesterone to induce my period. I took it for 10 days and then got my period exactly 14 days later (which is the "limit" my doc said before calling him). Then my next cycle was 150+ days and I got progesterone again (also metformin) and took it for 10 days and my period came about 3 days later (much quicker this time).

Now I'm not waiting as long to get the progesterone, i had one "natural" period after a 38 day cycle (woo!) but this one wasn't so lucky. I got a prescription for progesterone again on day 43 because i wanted to jump start my cycle (not wait over 100 days) and do Clomid for the first time next cycle. The problem is, I took the progesterone for 10 days and it has now been 17 days since i finished it and no period in sight.

Has anyone taken progesterone and not gotten a period within 2 weeks? I've left a message with my doc, but haven't heard back yet.
