@CatchAFallingStar: Like @Snowdrop: said I would just explain that you are switching to a specialist who can work with you in a greater capacity by providing monitoring, additional treatment if necessary (i.e. IUI, etc) and who's primary focus is fertility. I would ignore any attitude you perceive and just stick to general reasons

Just be honest and say you wanted to move somewhere with more of a specialism who would be able to perform detailed testing and monitoring. I think its just the wow at the beginning that is a bit weird.

This is what the doctor said when I emailed, telling him I was switching. He sounds so defensive!

"Wow.

Okay. So I am able to better serve my patients moving forward, would you mind letting me know if there was anything in particular that made you leave my practice?

Good luck with your fertility goals moving forward. May I ask who you have transferred to so I can aide in getting your records transferred?"

Oh dear they just don't get it sometimes do they? I think I'd have asked him how exactly we were meant to try harder, probably using your ob's favourite four letter words!

@littlek: @Snowdrop: @spaniellove: Nothing to do with his medical expertise, but both times I saw this OBGYN, he said both f**k and s**t. I have a foul mouth sometimes, but not in a professional setting. That kind of made me feel awkward. Seemed too casual.

@CatchAFallingStar: it must be so frustrating to deal with doctors like this, and I can't even imagine having to deal with those kinds of costs (we pay through taxes in England) but I think you are doing the right thing by not taking meds till you see someone. I only saw a GP and so far, before starting anything I am having/have had. Day 3 fsh, lh, E, Prolactin. Day 21 progesterone and TSH. An SA for DH, an ultra sound and repeat bloods. Yes I find all this frustrating but if I had been put straight on clomid, likelihood is wouldn't have worked be because of the prolactin. I'm hoping so much for good results from you soon

I hated the idea of having to go through everything involved with switching and finding someone new and starting over, but it turned out to be the best thing I could have done.

@CatchAFallingStar: Would you be willing to drive the 2 hours for a consult? $600 sounds like around double what a consult should cost and I'm concerned about a doctor who'd take advantage of having no competition. About the FSH, I don't know if it's a requirement to have the E2 (estrogen) in conjunction but I've never heard of not having your CD3 E2 levels. If your OB hasn't measured that, you definitely need to see someone else and please consider not taking any more meds with this doctor...

@CatchAFallingStar: Did they test anything else on CD3? It's typical to test your progesterone and estrogen at that point. I'm wondering if someone at the RE's office gave you bad information about paying the $600 for the consult if you have insurance, because it's generally one or the other. If you really do have to pay upfront it may be possible to get reimbursed. Or does your insurance just cover anything related to infertility?
