@T-Mom: it's awesome! I have a small kitchen, but it lives on my counter because it can do so many things! I don't use the pressure cooker function as often as I thought I would (pressure cooked food seems to come out ugly, maybe I'm just not doing it right :D ). I use it for rice & as a slow cooker all the time & the delay/warm features are great so I can use it overnight or during the day.

@mrs. bird: Wow this is pretty cool. The delay is perfect, and I love how it's also a pressure cooker. I'm scared of my pressure cooker!

One thing we have thought about doing is prepping the food in the crock pot and then setting the "pot" part in the fridge or freezer. So that gets you an hour or so for the actual "pot" to heat up before the food actually starts cooking.

No I don't believe they make ones that turn on automatically. Only that turn off to warm mode. When I researched it I believe they don't make them because of the risk of food sitting out before cooking and spoiling. Would be so nice, though!!

I have a cord I can attach to my crockpot then plug in, it allows me to turn on the crockpot over our wireless network from my phone.

Ours has a thermometer probe that you can attach and set to cook meat to a certain temp, then it will switch to warm.

@regberadaisy: @sarac: even better would be one that has a "refrigerate" mode so you can set it to keep the food cold for a couple hours and then flip to the "cook" mode! That would be amazing.

Yeah I would love a feature like this too but maybe they don't want to encourage people to just let food sit there not being cooked or at a "safe" temp ..? I assemble everything night before if possible and turn it on at the last possible minute. The food is usually done cooking by 2pm and site at "warm" for another 4 hours! Some recipes do better than others..

@Truth Bombs: @PurplePeony: that's what I have. I was thinking maybe the newer models have this option! :silly:

I would put still semi frozen meat in the crock pot ready to go? But I guess I could put meat frozen in the crock pot and use the 6-8 hour setting.

Everything is SO dried out after being in the crock pot all day even with plenty of fat and liquid. At the minimum the food is in the crockpot for 9 hours.

Not that I know of, but most will switch to "warm" mode when the set cooking time is up. I've heard of people using an outlet timer (the kind you use when you go away and want your lights to come on during the evening or whatever) to start the crockpot later, but that wouldn't work with mine because I have to physically push the buttons to start it. And as @Truth Bombs said, it's not the best idea to have raw meat sitting out longer than necessary.

I've not see one like that. Ours is programmable to cook for a certain amount of time and then just switch to warm. This is my preference anyway because almost everything I do in the slow cooker includes meat and I wouldn't want raw meat sitting out waiting to start cooking.

If you have one, am I right to assume you can program the crock pot to start cooking at a certain time?
