We have Nest learning thermostats. Turns out I hated the “learning” part and turned that off pretty immediately so we overpaid for that. But I love them otherwise!

Have both on a detailed schedule that keeps us all comfortable and keeps the system off when we’re gone. Our energy use has gone down noticeably since we got them. And I never wake up hot or freezing in the night or come home to a sweltering house. Love being able to change things from my phone too!

We have an ecobee 4. It’s the same as the 3, but it has Alexa built in. I’ll talk specifically about that, since other people have covered the sensors already.

The good:
- We have two thermostats, and one of them is in the kitchen, so being able to set multiple timers for cooking is awesome.
- You can play music from it.
- You can make announcements from it—if I say, “Alexa, announce, ‘Dinner is ready!’” The announcement plays on all our other Alexa devices.

The bad:
- Amazon hasn’t let third party apps in on it yet (though they’ve announced that’s coming), so when you play music on it, it’s through Amazon music. No Spotify playlists or what have you.
- It is less sensitive to my voice than our Dots—sometimes I have to get closer or yell like a crazy person. This might be fixed in time.
- You can’t use it to Drop In on your other Alexa devices. That’s dumb.
- You can’t sync your music across all your devices (my Dots can play the same song in different rooms, but not the ecobee). That’s even more dumb because since announcements work, I think the capability is already there. Again, I’m hoping this changes in a future update to the software.

If money is a concern, you’d be better off just getting the Ecobee 3 and buying a Dot when it’s on sale. With that said, this saves us from having two more devices taking up space. And they do update their software regularly, so it’s entirley possible my issues won’t be permanent. I still give it five stars!

We have the Nest but then we had our electrical panel replaced. Our Nest still works but can't connect to the wifi. So now we just have a very expensive programmable thermostat and can't use it for it's intended purpose. We have the Ring doorbell and it did the same thing but we were somehow able to get that back up and running.

We have the Nest and it is connected to our Google Home, so we can change the settings by voice. It is also super convenient to have it turn to away from home and be able to prep the house to be the right temp when you get home.

It has been good for our family to have a decent range type thermostat (our old ones were just one temp) and when DH isn't super attentive, I nudge the range one degree or so in the eco-friendly direction from my phone.

My daughter also had a really rough night one night and chucked all her blankets away but I didn't want to go in and put them back on because I didn't want another meltdown... so I just turned the temp up from bed ;)

I will also say that the wires are a little scary looking, but it basically boils down to stick the red wire in the C hole, green wire in B, etc. Just take a pic of the old thermostat setup so you can replicate it without having to lookup old directions.

We have a Nest and love it! It is so nice being able to control the temp from my phone, so I can change it when we are out of the house. Sometimes even if I'm in the house, I use my phone to change it, because it's more convenient than walking across the house to the thermostat

We have an Ecobee. I like it - I especially like how it has the sensors that you can put around the house, because my youngest son's room tends to be really cold - this way I can make sure the temp isn't too low in there.

We also have an ecobee and I really like it. We have issues with temperature differences between the rooms in our house and the additional sensors help to even things out and make sure our kids rooms are at a consistent temp.

I like being able to adjust the temperature from bed if needed especially when changing seasons and inconsistencies in weather.

We have a nest and really like it. It has a schedule which is great, and it learns our general habits but it also has a location feature connected to an app on our phones which turns the system on when we get within a 5 mile radius of our house.

We have Trane ones. They came free when the d owners replaced out ac. I hate them, passionately. The downstairs one the touch screen is all messed up and hard to manage. You have to pay a monthly fee to have their app in order to change them away from home (and I hear the app is dreadful) they're from late 2015 so they aren't even that old and have been awful since we moved in (March 2017)

I want to replace them with nest but basically I'm likely stuck with them until the downstairs one actually totally breaks

We have an Ecobee 3, I love it. I think it would be even better if we didn't have in home child care, because then we could use the Geo fence option. Basically you can draw a line around your house at whatever distance you want, when your device with the app enters the Geo fence, the thermostat switches to your home setting, when you exit the Geo fence it switches to your away settings.

We turn the heat down when we leave and I'd love to be able to start warming the house back up a little bit before we come home.
