@LindsayInNY: the email would be to open up communications... you could share your PayPal address over email!

As for offering the ability to delete wall posts, I'd like to do that once we have a reputation system in place on the classifieds! In the meantime, it's one of the ways that classifieds members can warn each other of issues with scammers... we had a scammer try to pull a fast one a few years ago, and wall posts encouraged other buyers to ask PayPal for a refund before the refund window closed!

@mrbee: Not to use with paypal? So I'm not sure how to get around that. Could you consider adding a gold feature so they can delete wall posts? Otherwise I may need you to delete that one with my email...

@LindsayInNY: over time, we'd love to build a better system for bidding and winning classifieds listings!

In the meantime, do you maybe have a throwaway email you could post publicly to the web? Might be a way around the public posting limit!

I do have one complaint... As a non-gold member, when I purchase on the classifieds, my email address is public on someone's wall if I don't delete it in time. And they don't have the option to delete it for me. Maybe that could be a gold feature so they could delete it afterwards? (It's a current issue now)

@mrbee: I've had people ask me to gift as f&f and I don't feel comfortable with that. I think there needs to be some rule on shipment or better communication on shipping. Some people are good but some people are not. It takes no time to mail an item, so why should You be forced to pay within 24 hours if the seller isn't going to mail it for a week??

I think this is a suggestion but I think people should state if they are cross posting an classified ad. That way I know if the ad is exclusive to HB or if there's a chance it could be sold before anyone responds. This isn't an issue I've seen on HB but I'm a part of some FB groups and it's helpful to know this info. I guess this isn't a requirement but more of a tip or suggestion. Since I'm more forgetful, a list of tips or suggestions would help me remember to include all the info before I post.

I think these rules sound fair.

I wonder if there should be policy/guidance on selling it officially via PayPal vice gifting. I know I've had sellers ask me to gift them the payment, and I've done it before (when I've bought more than once from them successfully) and I've awkwardly refused before if it's someone I don't have a previous history with. Just a thought :)

<< But if the buyer says "Sold, if this is a 2t" then the seller knows right away whether or not it's sold, or if they can move on to someone else because it's actually a 3t. >>

@Truth Bombs: I like that a lot, thanks! We can ask that people post, "Sold if" + [the condition under which they'd buy it]. That's much better than something more vague like, "sold pending size"!

@mrbee: I think "sold pending...." should only hold an item if the seller neglected to include pertinent information AND the buyer phrases it in such a way that the seller doesn't have to wait for a subsequent response. So if the seller doesn't post a size, the buyer can't say "Sold, pending size" because then we need to set a time frame for how long the seller has to wait for the buyer to come back. But if the buyer says "Sold, if this is a 2t" then the seller knows right away whether or not it's sold, or if they can move on to someone else because it's actually a 3t.

@Truth Bombs: We'd be open to doing that over time! But I think we need to soup up the Classifieds first... so that you can actually click a button to leave a Bid on an item (versus leaving a comment) and then the seller can Accept the Bid, etc.

@regberadaisy: In that case, would "sold pending clarification around ___" work as a comment? Seems like a good way to differentiate between casual interest, and someone who is seriously committed to buying (pending size or whatever).

@Truth Bombs: The issue is that in some cases, a buyer will "buy" an item and then not followup.

So if a seller doesn't want to deal with that particular buyer on a future listing, I think the seller should have the option to accept another offer? That was the thinking, at least! Definitely open to thoughts on other ways to address this one...

@mrbee: I totally agree with your #1 and #2 but I'm not sure how I feel about #3. It seems unfair that if I'm the first person to claim an item and I'm ready and willing to pay in a timely manner, the seller can just skip me because someone she likes better happens to post after me saying they like the item too.

@regberadaisy: As a seller I definitely don't want to wait around 24 hours for someone to maybe pass on an item when I have some one else who is ready to buy right away. I think as a buyer, if you are really interested in an item, it's up to you to stay on top of the post to check for responses. In most Buy/Sell/Trade groups I'm in, if you don't pay an invoice in 24 hours after specifically claiming the item, you're kicked out of the group, so I would say the proposed HB rules are already pretty leniant towards buyers.

@jetsa: @regberadaisy: The problem with that is, we have had some potential buyers who ask a lot of questions but don't check back on the listing (let alone buy the item).

So a number of sellers have been "holding" items for people asking questions, but naturally getting frustrated when the questioner never comments back.

We have two different ways we could handle this, I think:

Option 1) If you ask a question, you get a ___ hour hold on the item. But then we need to police things, so that someone isn't asking lots of questions and not following up when they get a reply. (This is the issue that's been happening lately.)

Option 2) If you ask a question, that just means you have a question - there's no hold on any items, and the seller is free to sell to someone else.

A number of sellers have been basically doing option 1, and it's been problematic. A few potential buyers have been regularly leaving comments expressing interest, and then disappearing. Meanwhile, the seller has been holding the item and doesn't feel they can sell it until they hear back.

Given that, I'm inclined to give option 2 a try! Would love to hear everyone's thoughts first though!
