I have the same feeling you do in regards to pro-life and don't think it is the government's right to dictate a mother's decision for her, especially in a case where the baby isn't expect to live or if he/she does it would be in vast amounts of pain before eventually passing away. It's just frustrating that in this day in age that the government still feels the needs to regulate women's rights instead of things that are way more important.

Oh wow, I totally agree that would be a HORRIFIC position to be in! I read an article about a woman who found out at her NT scan that her baby had a very rare tumor on it's head that would grow at 10x the speed/size of the baby, and there was zero chance it would survive even if making it all the way through the pregnancy. She was put in a horrible position, but ultimately had to end the pregnancy, obviously. That really resonated with me bc of first of all being such a traumatic experience, but also having to make that choice. As you said, it would be an AWFUL choice to make, but I agree with you that there are definitely medical circumstances where unfortunately, the pregnancy has to end. And the choice should absolutely be available in the case of a serious medical issue!

The state of Michigan, my home state, is currently proposing a law that would outlaw abortion after 20 weeks. I'm currently 9w2d (had the cutest little ultrasound this morning!!), and I cannot imagine just how horrific it would be to be forced to carry to term a pregnancy that involves a severely deformed baby. One story is here: http://www.rhrealitycheck.org/article/2012/06/08/facing-reality-later-term-abortion-stories-michigan-lawmakers-dont-want-us-to-hea

I'm so bothered that the MI House didn't allow women to testify. I cannot imagine what it would be like to be forced to carry a baby that I know is dying, and that would never survive outside the womb. To have people offer congratulations on my protruding belly. Do you tell them, oh, hey, well, don't expect to see a baby in month? I just don't understand WHY these legislators feel these laws are so necessary, especially now when there are so many things in this country that need our elected officals' attention (hello, economy?).

I think it's pretty obvious that I'm pro-choice, but I certainly understand pro-lifers. It's simply that I don't think anyone gets to make that decision other than my spouse and me. Especially in this kind of situation.

I pray I never have to make this type of decision in this or any pregnancy. I just wish I didn't have to worry about whether government was making it for me.
