We just jam a towel under the headrest so his dirty shoes aren't on the seat. He pulls it down sometimes but it helps.

I know they are a no-no but car seat companies sell them. We bought some at BRU that go up the back of the seat. They have rubber on the top and bottom so the car seat doesn't slip.

I could only find seat protectors for forward facing and they would have had to be modified to work RF, so I made one. It's just a piece of cloth sewed over a towel with button holes to fit the headrest through. I am not a sewer, but this was an easy project. You could probably even just use a towel. It was easy to whip off and wash when needed.

I have also seen people put a t shirt over the seat back. As long as you put it on after the seat is installed it's not interfering with safety.

There are some kick mats (i think they're intended for ff and the rear of the front seat) that you might be able to use. They don't have a piece that goes under the car seat and over the seat.

Do you have leather seats? I bet Press and Seal would stick to it.

So my 19 month old LOVES the dirt and the sandbox, and since he is still rearfacing that means muddy, sandfilled shoes after daycare.

So, carseat protectors are supposed to be a nono for safety, and he is not ready to face forward yet. So, my question, I guess is, does anyone have a hack for keeping the nastiness off the back of the seat without taking off his sneakers? (He has a MELTDOWN whenever we take off his shoes, so if I can avoid it that would be awesome.) Do you put a sheet up? Just resign yourself to destroying the material? Take his shoes off and make that a new routine (ugh)?
