I like Sunwarrior a lot - stopped it since I"m pregnant, but definitely will get back into it. Also like Vega chocolate - took some getting used to, but got hooked on it. I like protein powder the best when it's blended with milk and frozen fruit - can't do it straight with milk or water.

@blackbird: Thank you for confirming my suspicions! It does taste soooo good though, like cake batter, mmm. I mix it with unsweetened vanilla almond milk and sometimes a bit of cinnamon. Good to know there are several other healthy options out there! $140 for a month supply made my mouth drop and I cancelled my 3rd subscription last week.

Thanks for the tips on what to look for! I really wanted something on the more natural side cause I sometimes give it to my toddler when he is going through a picky phase.

@lilyann: Ummmm I think Shakeology is a rip off, honestly. It's protein powder, amino acids, fancy sounding stuff (antioxidants!!!) and vitamins packaged up all sexy (and expensively). I hear it tastes awesome, though

Basically it's protein and amino acids. You can easily buy protein with BCAAs in it (which is what I prefer). I don't think it's worth the cost at all :)

I am a vegetarian and needed something while nursing my dairy intolerant baby. This one doesn't taste great but seems to have decent ingredients. Not sure about giving to a toddler though. I wouldn't get the flavored ones because they contain stevia and it may not be safe for breastfeeding (I don't think it's really been studied so I avoid it). http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0031JK96C/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Oh man I could go on and on about protein powder. I always go for a cold processed whey, but I go for protein isolate, which is easily digested. Optimum Nutrition and Combat Pharm are two of my favorite brands. BUT i lift weights and my goals are different from yours. Now i take protein to retain muscle mass. I also have a Champion Nutrition that tastes awesome. ON's strawberry tastes great mixed in with almond milk. Very strawberry and cream-like. Whey is generally considered safe while pregnant/breastfeeding for one serving/day. I wouldn't do more than that since it *is* a supplement. Not sure about kids, honestly. I look for a min of 20 grams of protein/serving. I also look for it at under 150 calories/serving and i check the carbs--i don't want one chock full of sugar or weird stuff, either. I've seen good reviews on Sun Warrior vegan powder and it's about 15 grams/serving but...I've never felt the need to do a vegan powder so I'm only somewhat familiar with it. It is plant based and might work better for you due to the lack of lactose. While protein is always thought of as a bodybuilder's supplement, women simply do not get enough protein in their diet, so it's always a good thing to include :) Check out Sun Warrior and see if that fits your bill. It's pretty clean, too.

Now, they do make kid-versions of certain protein powders, but I am not familiar with them....

@jedeve: i was looking for a whole food one, but i try to avoid soy. Ive heard whey and hemp protein are both good. Im also avoiding artificial sweeteners. This doesnt appear to have any of those but unless im reading the label wrong it only has 4 grams of protein so i dont think this one was really even a protein powder.

I was actually just looking for one myself and found one today at sams that i am going to research. It is called GNC whole foods blend. If it checks out i am going to add some to our green smoothies in the morning!

ETA: meh, im not impressed. It is mostly soy protein and not enough protein anyway. Sticking to frozen fruits and greens and full fat greek yogurt for the protein instead.

So I have been wanting to sneak some more protein in my diet. Anyone have a good protein powder recommendation? I don't do heavy workouts but I do go on a lot of walks/hikes.

Something dairy free would be great so I could put some in my toddler's smoothies too. Also something safe for nursing.
