@regberadaisy: if you have issues then so do I! When. lo was born she had a small scrape on her forehead from one of the instruments. Everytime they brought her back from testing or the nursery I would immediately look for the scrape to make sure they brought us the right baby! DH thought I was crazy haha.

One of the baby alarms went off when I was at the hospital. They called it a code pink. Two nurses came into my room to make sure we had LO with us.

this is so scary. I'm a paranoid person to begin with..now I'm going to be even worse while I'm there!

Poor lady-I'd be so traumatized I'd beg to keep the electronic tether forever and I'd flee Cali for sure.
Can u imagine how out of it she must have been to shower and leave the baby anyways? I couldn't do that!

We were warned against this sort of thing in one of our birthing classes. It was also recommended to generally keep yourself between the baby and the door.

We also had baby lo-jack and were told about "code pink". they had lines on the floor that clearly marked where you shouldn't cross with a baby. I didn't notice these until we were out walking the halls with the baby. We were also only allowed to take the baby out of the room in the hospital bassinet. We couldn't carry her for a walk.

Our hospital kept things pretty secure.

When we had DS, our room was right next to one of the exits. Every time they took him out of the room (which was a lot, since he had jaundice and had to have a couple blood tests a day), they'd accidentally set the alarm off. Once, while I was in the shower, the alarm went went off. I came running out in the hall in my towel to find out one of the nurses had come into my room and taken DS for a blood test without notifying me. :/ Scariest moment of my life.

@highwire: Sometimes the alarm will go off because the baby's arm is, like, under mom's arm or something. The signal gets blocked. We had a false alarm like that once.

That's insane. Our hospital does the electronic alarm chips in our hospital bracelets too...or at least it's in the baby's, I'm not sure about me and DH's (except that we'll both have a bracelet as well).

So sad! DH was doing his residency a few years ago when there was a child abduction code at the hospital. Everyone(staff, patients)stood still until security searched them and their belongings! He said security guards checked his lunch cooler bag for the missing baby!

@eiko2010: My hospital took it very seriously as well. Matching bands with geo tracking etc. If the bands were taken off the entire ward shuts down immediately etc. But none of that eased my mind...

wow crazy, our hospital made the babies wear little alarms on their ankles (hhaa think like house arrest monitors) so if they were to ever get taken, they wouldnt make it out of hte L&D floor bc teh alarm would go off. i always wondered if they had an incident at the hospital or if they were just playing it safe.

@chopsuey119: I would absolutely slap a B. I know no one would be successful with this at my hospital because I used to volunteer there so I know how hard core their alarm system is. But I would go crazy on someone for trying!!

I work in a hospital that has a big L&D ward. We do drills at least 3x a year for this kid of situation - employees have to go make sure that every single entrance, exit, stairwell, and elevator is blocked and no one gets in or out of the hospital without having their bags/person checked until the "baby" is found.

Wow that story is crazy. I was also very wary of someone trying to take my baby because just around the time i had my baby there was a story of a lady that was shot right outside her pediatricians office and her 3 day old baby was snatched. People just go to far
