I almost said something to a lady at Costco today when I saw one boy about 8 running with the cart with his approximately 6 year old brother standing in the basket. I don't normally say things to people since they can get defensive but that was just scary, especially since Costco is super crowded. Luckily an employee said something to her. She gave him a dirty look but told the younger boy to get out of the cart.

I will be a total shopping cart nazi like @runsyellowlights. Carts aren't toys!

We bought a handle for the stroller that works great on shopping carts for this reason. But he likes to sit in the back. It only took a few fits for him to learn he doesn't stand up.

I'm a total shopping cart naxi! I don't let G get in the cart, stand on the back of the cart, or run pushing the cart. He feels so jibbed but I've seen a kid flip a cart standing on the back of it so G can just deal with missing out!

My sister for years has always said how dangerous it is when kids stand up in shopping carts in the grocery store. She has seen multiple instances of carts tipping over and children falling out when they are standing up in a cart. Well I witnessed it with my own two eyes yesterday and it was SCARY!

I was out shopping and a mom was paying at the register with two kids who were both standing up in the shopping cart. The boy was probably around 4 and the girl around 2. Out of nowhere I hear a huge CRASH and then two kids screaming. I look over and the cart is tipped on it's side and the kids are on the ground. The store workers rushed over to help and the Mom didn't even stop to help her kids! She just let them scream and cry while she finished paying. :( Sorry if that sounds judgemental, I don't have kids so I don't know what I would do in that situation, but I would imagine I would stop what I was doing and make sure my kids were ok! The poor little girl just stayed on the ground screaming and crying for a good 2 minutes.

Anyway, point of the post is don't let your sweet babies stand up in shopping carts! I know it's easier said than done, and I know my sister struggles keeping her 2 year old from standing in a cart but oh my word so scary!
