DS started be constinently dry around 2.5, but it wasn't until he was almost 3 that he stopped using pull-ups at night. I wanted to go a few months of him being consistently dry before I got rid of them.

My son stopped wearing pull ups after nearly a year of being dry overnight, simply because i didn't want to have to change sheets during the week if I didn't have to! He was at least 5.

The thing with being dry overnight is that there is really nothing you can do to intervene or speed the process along because you're looking for two things, one that they wake up to use the bathroom if needed and two, that their body begins to secrete an enzyme that reduces the amount of urine that is produced overnight.

We just stopped the over night pull up this week and DD turned 4 in March. She just decided she didn't want it anymore and has only had one accident on the second night so far.

Everyone I know that stops doing an over night pull up before their kid is ready ends up with a lot of accidents and night time sheet changes... that's just in my observation. Ain't nobody got time for that imho :silly: .

@PinkElephant: DD1 has been potty trained for over 2 years and she still has a full pull up every single night. Completely soaked. So who knows?!

Is this different between boys and girls? Similar to @skipra: DD1 is 5 in a month but never dry in the AM. DD2 is newly 3 and dry about a third of the time overnight but she wears a pull-up.

I was under the impression that once kids stop waking up with a wet pull up then you knew they were ready to go without a pull up. Our 4 year old kept waking up wet so I never pushed the issue. Then one day he came home from school and said none of his friends wore pull ups and he didn't want one anymore. That night he didn't wet himself. It appears he knew he had the pull-up and was just peeing into it out of convenience/laziness. He hasn't worn a pull-up since.

@KT326: ok this is helpful. My son turns 4 in a couple of months and is fully potty trained except for overnight. We haven't even attempted.

My son turned 5 at the end of March and still wears pull ups. The pediatrician said it's normal. His body still needs to either produce a hormone to not make as much per at night or wake him up to go.

ETA: he's been potty trained since 3.5.
