Always. I used Motherlove Nipple Cream or EMAB Natural Nipple Butter on my nipple area right before pumping every time.

@purrpletulips: @Adira: Yup, I dipped my finger in a little tupperware cup of OO and rubbed it in the flange.

@purrpletulips: @mediagirl: When I used olive oil, I just spread it directly on the flange where it was pulling.

@mediagirl: did you put the oil directly on the flanges? olive oil may be a little easier to do that with than coconut since coconut is solid at first

@adira: thanks, I'm hopeful. if it doesn't then i'll just deal with the pulling because I won't give up :)

@purrpletulips: Yep, I agree with @mrskc. I also feel a pulling (and can see that part of my aerola is being pulled into the flange), but it hasn't bothered me since I turned my suction down (which you can't do). Hopefully the oil helps!!!

@purrpletulips:  Ok. I would try some coconut oil or something then. I feel a pulling too but it never irritates or bothers me. Maybe you're just a little more sensitive.

@adira: yep they are clear, the pulling isn't the nipple but the area at the flange edge

@purrpletulips: Your nipples definitely don't rub against the side of your flanges? I wish I had some advice. :( I have heard that some people just always use lube like coconut oil or olive oil and that helps them, so hopefully that will help you too!

@mrskc: yep, I have to use the smallest flange because anything else causes nipple pain.

@purrpletulips: is it possible you don't have the right size of flanges?

I've never used any lubrication and have been fine. Been pumping for about 6 months now.

I tried olive oil, but realized my suction was too high. Since reducing the suction, I haven't used any lubrication and seem to be okay. Been pumping 3x a day for a month now with no issues. *knock on wood*

I never used lubrication. It sounds more like you might have your suction too high.

Do you put the lubrication on the flanges or your breast?

I've been pumping since going back to work when DS was 9 weeks old however recently I've been feeling a pulling sensation while pumping and then am tender afterwards. I thought I would try to lubricate with coconut oil to see if that helps.
