@photojane: Yes I have the Lansinoh affinity double electric pump. I havent used any other pumps so I cant compare to anything but I love it. It works great for me, I never pump more than 10 mins (usually 7 minute) but I get4oz on each side minimu and usually 5oz or 6oz if I havent pumped in a while. Its really a great pump. I was worrie before I bought it because everyone raves about ameda and medela but I couldnt afford those. I thought I would regret this purchase but I have been using this pump for 3 months now and its great. It doesnt come with a carry case or bag but you can buy one on their website or use a bag you already own.

ETA: My health insurance told me they would only cover pumps if my baby was in the NICU

@purrpletulips, @dagret: we're on a calendar year plan. luckily, baby won't be here until february, so if we have to wait until january it's not a big deal. i'm about to call them now!

@jholler25: i haven't heard of that brand. i'm going to look it up now. thanks!

I have a coworker that purchased a MiPump while on vacation when her medela stopped working. She said it was less than $100 and she loved it as much as the medela...

I just spoke to my insurance last week and they said they aren't sure how they are going to implement it and to call back next month. Plus, it only takes effect Aug. 1 (luckily, that's when my plan renews) so if you're in the middle of your plan, it won't take effect until your plan renews (ala @purrpletulips' post above)

@Photojane: the healthcare law that was passed requires insurance companies to pay for breastfeeding support which includes rental/purchase of a pump and lactation consultation visits; those benefits are supposed to go into effect as of August 1, 2012. However, when I signed up for my insurance plan's maternity information service they told me (and I confirmed by reading online) that there is no guidelines for exactly they are supposed to implement this. Definitely check with your insurance because there are a lot of policies that are grandfathered from having to implement all the different rules and many are only required to implement them beginning in the new policy year (so for me, I have to check with my insurance but my policy year doesn't start until January so I may be out of luck).

I have the original lansinoh (just like the ameda purely yours) and liked it. My co-worker bought the affinity when her original lansinoh died (after using it FT for 2 babies) and her only complaint was that it seemed louder to her.

thanks for the input! i'm looking at registering for either the lansinoh or ameda, since i really doubt we'll get a free one from our insurance -- it's not that great. i'm going to call tomorrow though.

I have the Lansinoh one and I like it. I only pump 3-4 times a week though since I am a SAHM. It's small and seems pretty portable though. I did have to buy the bigger flanges for it though since the ones that came with it hurt!

Definitely check with your insurance. Mine only covers it if there's a medical condition requiring pumping or if the baby has to stay in the hospital longer than me and then it only covers a rental. It's definitely worth checking into though.

I've seen the ins do it in different ways. I had 2 friends that were given medela pump in styles (one back pack & one a messenger kind of bag), another friend got a ameda purely yours, and another was sent a medela lactina hospital grade pump to rent from a hospital supply center. I think it very much depends on your plan & what they are offering at that moment. Yay for free pumps though!!

@photojane: If your insurance covers it, they will give you the medical supply stores in your area (or on-line) that they work with when you call.

I have Ameda Purely Yours and it works great!
And oh don't forget your health insurance now covers pumps, I believe. But it has to come from a medical supply store.

i'm working on my amazon registry, and when i got to the pumps i got totally overwhelmed. i have no idea what i'm doing here. what do you suggest? is there something i should definitely stay away from? we are on a tight budget!

eta: i know medela is the best, but i think that might be out of our budget! has anyone used the Lansinoh Affinity Double Electric Breast Pump?
