I'd rather use the exact amount of milk I need at that moment than risk any of it going to waste because I defrosted too much. As LO gets older and his needs change, I'll probably up the quantity of the bags to 5-6 oz.</p> <p>I also freeze my bags flat and then put them upright. I do exactly what @CarrieLouWho does - I have the First Years storage container, but from previous experience realized that it wasn't enough, so started putting them flat in gift bags and cut a slit on the bottom for easy dispensing. I froze mine flat and then stored them in the First Years storage container while in the regular freezer. Once I moved them to the deep freezer I transferred and stacked them in a gallon ziplock bag. I have tons of these bags in our deep freezer and they stack nicely and are the most space saving storage method I found. You can also use gift bags as mentioned above. TIP: cut a slit in the bottom to act as a dispenser and that way you get the oldest bag out first!</p> <p>I started freezing in 2 oz bags but quickly moved to 4 oz. As DS got older and drank more at a feeding we move up to 5 or 6 oz. I actually think it's helpful to have a handful of 1oz, 2 oz, 3 oz, etc. Some days at work, I don't have a great pumping session, so I need to add an extra ounce or two for her next days feeding. I started out freezing 2-3 oz bags but now that my LO takes 4-5 Oz it's annoying to have to thaw multiple bags. If I could do it over I'd freeze 4-5 oz bags and if you want to use one while she's still taking just 2-3 oz pour that much into a bottle and save the other 1-2 oz in the fridge for use up to 24 hours. No refreezing. </p> <p>Also, I would freeZe in Lansinoh bags and freeze them flat. LO is 5 months now and she takes 5 oz at each feeding at daycare, so that seems to be the magic # for now.<br /> We are limited on freezer space, I'm trying to contain the milk to one shelf. I used the freezer storage set from "first years" (I think it's in Mrs. Bee's reviews). And then I added 2 gift bags to contain more. I have always frozen milk in 4-5 oz bags because that it what she is most likely to take. Thawing and then re-freezing isn't typically recommended so I would avoid that if possible. I only use Lansinoh bags after trying every freezing method I could find. I recommend freezing the bags flat so they are easier to stack. My question is that I'm getting about 2-3 oz. at a time right now (which seems to coincide with how much she should be getting per feeding). For the milk I want to freeze, I started combining into one bottle or bag, but it seems like SO much milk in one container. When I take it out to use it again, is it OK to thaw/defrost and just take out a few ounces, and then re-freeze? How much do you freeze in a container at a time? (I'm sure this changes with baby's age?)</p> <p>I prefer to freeze in bottles just because our freezer drawers are SUCH a mess (especially with all the food our moms and people have been bringing over). I tried using the Lanisoh bags, but it seemed like a mess to freeze 2-4 oz. only in a big bag? And if I only freeze a small amount in a bottle, seems like a waste of space. I'm thinking of going to buy more of those skinny Medela tubes soon!</p> <p>Any tips for this FTM? What do you do? Thanks! </p>
