I had an oversupply so I had to pump the side she didn't eat first thing in the morning or we were both miserable all day. I didn't want to encourage it too much so I'd pump about 4 oz but wouldn't totally empty the breast. Then I'd feed her from that side for her next feeding. I built up a pretty great freezer stash that way! I also never really kept track of which boob she'd eaten from last, I just fed her from whichever felt more full. We never had a problem with it.

I always did this with LO after our early morning feeding. I just pumped the side she didn't eat and built a nice freezer stash this way. I can't remember which side I fed from the next time but I'm not sure I thought too hard about it since I had emptied both.

Both my Los only ever took one side. I still pump both sides and then feed from the one that would be next at the next feed. There was always more milk there

same as @ninja: J only takes one side per feed. I pump both sides after his first AM feeding, when I'm the most full. I just continue on with the opposite side at the next feed. I've been doing this since he was about 4 weeks old and I think it helped me to establish a really good supply which was helpful when I went back to work.

I just pump both and continue with the next breast at the next feeding. My son is 7 weeks, and doesn't seem fazed by this.

How would that work? Both my babies only take/took one boob per feeding. I didn't start pumping with LO 1 until she was much older and was having a 6 hour stretch at night so I felt confident that there would be something there when she was ready to nurse again. LO2 is almost 2 weeks old and I'd like to start building a small little stash to have around (we have 2 under 2 and DH keeps pointing out how he could be more help if he was able to feed her sometimes). I'd like to pump after her first am feed. Would I pump from the breast she just ate from or from the opposite one? If I did the opposite breast, which one do I offer at her next feed? Am I making this too complicated?
