@maybebaby: How is the Simple Wishes different than the Medela?

I never get much out pumping, so I have to pump several times a day. I usually try to pump a half-hour after he nurses, unless he's comfort nursing. My big pumping session is before I go to bed at night. ETA: and first thing in the morning. We usually nurse off and on from 3 am on.

@swedishfish: most of the time we nurse for an hour- maybe twenty solid minutes per side of actively eating. I feel like she isn't that efficient with her eating maybe. So she seems to eat until I'm really empty, and I need that hour to refresh bf pumping. She was real not happy when she woke up and there wasn't a lot left for her after I pumped. It felt like a full day ordeal for less than three ounces, which she guzzeled in minutes! At least she'll take a bottle, I guess.

I have a hands free bra but didn't use it for this first try. Maybe I'll try just pumping the one side next time. I def got more from the right side so maybe ill pump that side and save the left for her.

I pump about two hours after she goes to bed just to have an emergency stash.

@Bookish: Seriously, it is such a time saver!! And it is WAY better than the more expensive Medela one I started with and now never use.

@maybebaby: I don't, but I've been thinking of getting one. Pumping one side at a time takes foreverrr, and that's not gonna fly at work. I'll check out the one you recommended. :)

I usually pump about 45min - 1 hour after he nurses in the morning. Some times as soon as I'm done he'll decide he's hungry and wants to nurse and he never seems to have a problem getting what he needs.

I don't pump to build a stash though. I only pump a couple times a week or as needed.

I pump right after a feed if I can time it out, or I pump a few hours after he has gone to bed and I know he will have a longish stretch. For example, if he goes to bed at 7:30, I will pump before I go to bed around 11, and I will still be full enough for a 1/2 AM feed. He is 11 weeks old. @Bookish: Do you have a hands free pumping bra? I have to massage too and the simple wishes bra is the best!

I only pump one side at a time, that way if she gets hungry, one isn't too empty for her. I have no idea if it's necessary, but it makes me feel better! I also have to massage the boob I'm pumping, which is really hard to do if I'm double pumping! I'll get it figured out eventually....

I used to pump one hour after R's morning nursing session for twenty minutes. I nurse both sides for ten minutes each during every nursing session. I've recently switched to just pumping in the mornings and DH gives R a bottle. I get more ounces for my freezer stash this way. I'm going back to work soon and DH will be taking care of R in the mornings so we are preparing for that. How long do you nurse in a session?

When I pump for stash building purposes, I pump on the side he didn't eat from. I usually feed one side per feeding, so I just pump the other side and that works pretty well. I've also been able to get some out of the side he just nursed from, but I have a bit of an oversupply, so that may be why.

For building a small stash on maternity leave, I pump one side while she feeds the other first thing in the morning, and then about every other day I'll pump in the evening after she goes to bed. The evening pump only works out lately because she pretty reliably goes 4 hours at least after going to bed. LO is 11 weeks.

I think others have luck with pumping after a feed, but I've tried that.

I pumped for the first time this morning- yay! I even got almost 3 oz. but the. C woke up and was hungry, so I tried feeding her a few minutes later and she got some but was still fussy after, since I'm sure there wasn't a full meal in there. It's been two hours and she is still fussing at the breast when I try and feed her, but she's also just been a little fussy lately.

So- breast feeders who occasionally pump, how did you time it? I'm not so much looking to build up a stash as get we used to the bottle and make it so I can leave for an hour or two if need be. I can't even give her the pumped milk yet bc I haven't sterilized any nipples! Oops.

Any tips an tricks are appreciated. Oh and C is just about 3 weeks old.
