When our nursing mamas are charge nurses they just take the breaks they need to pump. Schedule them if you can, but if things are hectic just take the break when you have to pump. Things will still be intact in 20 minutes. When I have to pump and I'm charge nurse I will just have to make time.

No personal experience, but I have heard of women using freemie collection system for this- worth looking into.

True. I have a 15 minute break built in the am, lunch and an afternoon break, I just hope it works out!

@matador84: you're in administration right? I've been the one pumping at professional development meetings and usually the breaks scheduled (am, lunch, pm) were good enough for me, although I was gone a little longer than the break was scheduled for.

You might want to plan for some small group discussions to pad the break times. As in, "Talk about XYZ for the next 10 minutes; our break begins at 10:15 and ends at 10:30." Then you can pop out for more time. If you're comfortable, you could tell the group you're taking pumping breaks, so question and answer conversations have to be after the session or at a specific time.

Agree. Schedule breaks. At work, most people know (or at least can guess) what's going on when I pump. It's like an unspoken thing that no one really brings up. Occasionally another woman will give me a thumbs up or tell me "way to go"--surprisingly there's a lot of support in my workplace!

I think you'd be pleasantly surprised at how well it can work. Good luck!

Even if you just have to run to the bathroom during a morning/afternoon break that may only be 10 minutes or so, you can hand express to relieve pressure for a few minutes (no set up required). Then try to get in a good session during the lunch break.

Do you know if you'll have a good private spot to pump?

Same. Long all days things I would run on breaks as well as pump during lunch.

Same as above, our all day sessions always have a midmorning, lunch, and afternoon break built-in and those were the times I'd pump.

Schedule breaks. Most day long stuff I attend has at least two breaks, plus lunch. Other people need time to go back to theirs desks, check mail, etc.

I am not in charge but have been to plenty of meetings!

Can you pump during a break? We always have a mid-morning. lunch, and mid-afternoon break.

Just grab your pump and RUN so no one has time to say 'hey, I have a quick question"

I had no idea what to title this thread! If you held a leadership type position in your job--one where you might lead meetings, etc--how did you go about pumping at work? When I go back to work in a month, I'm in charge of giving several presentations-8-4 type ones in front of a large group. I have no idea how I'll be able to go about my pump break. Suggestions or ideas?
