I would not... I didn't have great supply with my first either, but I plan on starting to eat tons of oatmeal, etc beforehand and def start to pump right away next time.

@Mommyof2: I agree with what others have said- to talk with your doctor. I understand deeply the desire to EBF - but also keep in mind breastfeeding is a two person, unique relationship. Comparing yourself to others/trying to do what worked for someone else could set you up for disappointment. Breastfeeding isn't a formula you can follow (if I do A and B then C will happen). Not that I am at all saying you won't achieve your goal, I just think it's best to focus on your birth and your baby and what works for the both of you... Something you can't know fully until the baby is here. Good luck!

I wouldn't and don't think it's necessary. But would certainly talk to your doc before doing it.

I would definitely talk to your OB first before doing anything.

I had low supply with my first and wanted to do the same to help my supply along. She didn't think preterm labor was an issue (for me) but also didn't think it would make a huge difference. I did randomly hand express the few weeks before my EDD and never got anything. I also started taking MMP pills in hopes it would help as well.

My milk did come in a day earlier the second time, but that's common with second babies. I also made just enough to cover her intake. The first few days until my milk came in, I didn't hesitate to give her some formula. She was legit hungry, and I just don't believe colostrum is enough for all babies those first few days. But after that we've been EBF ever since. She's almost 17 months and we're still going...

Good luck!

You can definitely start expressing antenatally but you might be best to start with hand expression as you may only get a few mL of colostrum in any one session. I started hand-expressing at 35 weeks and had approx 25mL of colostrum frozen in 3-5mL syringes which I then took to the hospital when I went in to labour (I had GD so wanted colostrum available in case my wee guy had low blood sugar).

Hand expressing is unlikely to put you into labour unless you're at serious risk of pre-term labour but you might like to consult with an IBCLC to get some pro advice on your particular situation - good luck with your birth!

Ok, I have a question.
Can I start pumping before I give birth? This is my second child & I am strictly considering breastfeeding OMLY for my 2nd one. I had such a hard time with my first one since I had to have aN emergency csection and I woke up 8 hours later after her birth since my body went into shock. So by the time I woke up and taken to my room my DD had already taken a few bottle feedings and she didn't want to latch. I saw the lactation consultant and she helped me with the latching but my DD was so upset that her food wasn't as fast as the first feedings. I did ended up breastfeeding for just 5 months since she decided to wake up one day and realize she didn't like my milk :crying: !!! I was devastated! So with this second one I have decided to breastfeed exclusively but with my daughter I got milk two days after she was born, so I am wondering if I can start pumping and freezing milk sometime before my schedule csection. I have a friend that did that with her last baby and she had a whole lot of supply by the time her baby was born! The baby will be a month old and she is now pumping about 6oz from each breast every 2 hours!!!!! I honestly envy her Hahaha!! She started pumping 2 weeks before her schedule csection and didon't go into labor or anything like that. She said she did have light contractions but that's it. So, I really need help! I forgot to ask mY obgyn on my last visit but I will definitely ask her next month's appointment! Buy I'd love to hear from other moms !!!
