I hated the pumping bra. I found it to be a hassle and it took up too much of my time to put it on, position everything, take it off. I just started tucking the bottom of the cup into my nursing bra. It keeps it in place so I can use my hands and still do work, I just can't move my torso as much.
I'd also start trying the electric to get used to it & find a rhythm/routine for how long it takes.

I just put the pumping bra on when it's time to pump. Wear a nursing bra and then you can zip up your pumping bra over it and pull down the cups of your nursing bra when it's time to pump.

Thanks, everyone! This may be a dumb question, but what do you wear to work when you pump? I usually wear dresses but I guess I'll be limited to button down/wrap around dresses. Do you wear the pumping bra all day or just put it on when you pump?

I think the hardest difference is that it can take longer. I agree, play with the settings and you'll probably also have to do massage and/or compressions to help empty.

Without a pumping bra I would absolutely die a slow, painful death.

I would start now so you can play around with the settings. Some say pumping bras are optional but they are a must have item for me! Simple Wishes hands free bras are my favorite.

@Katrocap: Yes I would start using it so you get used to it. And You will need a pumping bra. Or two. I would go nuts without a pumping bra.

So I'm returning to work on Monday after 7.5 months of maternity leave. I've pumped at home with my manual Medela. I also have a double electric pump that I got free via insurance and have never much used because I didn't produce much with it. Anyway, should I start using the electric pump to get ready for pumping at work? I assume it would be more efficient to use that one than the manual. Also, do I need to get a special pumping bra? As if returning to work isn't complicated enough ...
