@coacheswife123: If she didn't finish a bottle, I would usually leave it for the next feeding, but I would dump it out if it was longer than a few hours. We had a bottle warmer to warm the bottles (Dr. Browns), but you can always heat a mug of water in the microwave and set the bottle in it until it gets warm.

At least these big old boobs are good for something !!!

@MamaMoose: question - when DH feeds if he doesn't finish that bottle do I just put back in the fridge and he can give the rest the next day ? Wasn't sure about re-warming ??

How do you ladies warm your pumped bottles ? Just take it out ahead of time? Lukewarm faucet ??

@coacheswife123: Whoa mama!!! At 7 days I was definitely not getting that much from one side! That's more than a full feeding for him at this point.

@coacheswife123: That sounds like a great plan! At this rate, you can totally build up a nice freezer stash just in case. You never know when you will need a freezer stash!

@banana: yahoo!

i think we are going to start tomorrow letting DH give him the bottle I pumped this afternoon. I'll pump while he feeds that bottle and just go from there until we are comfortable with that - then maybe start building a supply!

I would probably pump the other side (the side that your LO didn't finish) and keep it in the fridge. Then at the next feeding, pump the side he didn't finish again and add to the first stash. Once you get enough for a full feeding, let your DH feed your LO that bottle while you pump. Now you have another bottle of milk! You can either continue this routine or freeze it. And repeat! Hope that made sense. :)

Most women find that pumping in the morning will produce the most milk. It might be easiest to pump off the side that he doesnt feed off much once he's done feeding. If you don't want to get into the vicious supply/demand cycle, just pump once a day. Good luck!

My LO almost always only takes from one side. Each day I pump from the other breast right after her first morning feeding. She has always been a great night sleeper and only has one wake up so my boobs are FULL first thing in the morning. Then you can pump again when DH gives the bottle and that milk can go to your freezer stash.

Sounds good! Whatever is easiest, really. Even if you don't pump much, you can leave everything attached and refrigerate it all and add to it the next time you have a chance to pump, as long as it's the same day. That way you're layering the milk throughout the day as you have time to pump a little.

Now that my supply is in and is pretty regulated and we have a feeding pattern I would love to pump a bottle a day for DH to give LO. Not sure how to get started, though.

Right now, he usually feeds fully on one side. I always offer the second but he usually feeds on it only for a few minutes. Should I start pumping off the rest of that side after he is done to get started?

Then, would I just pump for the feeding that DH gives a bottle?

I don't want to get myself into a situation where my body is making too much because of pumping but want to just get a bottle a day to start, then can work on building a stash later.

Is this the way to get started?
