My LO was dropping weight too quickly in the hospital so they had me start pumping 2 days after she was born. I would nurse her for 15-30 minutes and then pump for 15 minutes and feed her whatever I had pumped. I had a c-section and my milk came in about 3 days pp. I have had no issues with supply, actually had an oversupply issue and I've been exclusively pumping since about 2 weeks pp.

@MrsH: @T.H.O.U.: @mrs. tictactoe: @LuLu Mom: @Alivoo01: Thanks ladies!! I think it looks like I will give him any colostrum that I end up pumping and not freezing it. :)

My nurses asked if I wanted to pump immediately post delivery bc DS was in NICU. I graciously accepted. I syringe fed DS whatever colostrum I had first, then supplemented with formula afterwards. The goal during our hospital stay was 30mL of formula plus colostrum.

When I started producing more colostrum, I fed less formula until my milk came then I fed him breast milk.

I pumped right away due to c-section + LO in NICU. We had to syringe feed her what came out because she wouldn't suck/latch/ect. I stuck with pumping because she never latched and had a failure to try.

I had a c section and they encouraged me to pump in the hospital to get my milk to come in. They told me to put my (clean) finger in the colostrum and let him suck on it. After I left the hospital, I was too overwhelmed to pump for a few weeks, but I wish I had got into the habit right away.

I didn't pump right after birth but after my milk came in (due to a damaged nipple). At that point we were just doing 1 side per feeding so I just pumped the other side at each feeding.

I had a very low supply with DD. My milk ended up taking almost 7 days to come in, DD lost a ton of weight, we had to supplement, it was miserable, etc. We ended up switching to Nutramigen when DD was six weeks old due to some allergy issues.

I REALLY want to make breast feeding more successful this time with DS, but I'm a little confused on pumping right after birth. For those of you that did, did you pump immediately after nursing? I guess my fear is that I will pump and get out the little colostrum that he should be eating and then he will be hungry? If you did pump and get colostrum did you bottle feed it to baby, or freeze for later? I swear my pregnancy brain is making this more confusing than it needs to be!
