@PawPrints: I hope things regulate for you soon! Also - if DS sleeps well I have to pull over at a particular panera to switch bottles. Luckily I commute very early so nobody else is around.

@MrsF: @CarrieLouWho: @Anagram: @Truth Bombs: Maybe the reason this is startling to me is because I'm only six weeks along in my BF journey and thus have a crazy oversupply right now - when I hook up to the pump, I have a full bottle in 5 minutes. Pumping in the car for me would mean a desperate stop on the side of the road to unhook and screw off flanges/screw on bottle tops or there would be milk EVERYWHERE.

@PawPrints: I have an hour-long commute so I pump on the way to work and on the way home. I use a cover and a hands-free bra and I have my whole routine down now so it's no big deal.

I'm have pumped in the car with friends (under a scarf) but I don't think I would do it with co-workers. Can you get there early and pump then head in??

@PawPrints: yep! I have to travel a lot for work, and while it's not ideal, you can pump in the car! I pulled over, put on my nursing cover and my hands free pumping bra, hooked up the pump (they make a car charger) and pumped while driving. It took some time to get used to, but overall not bad.

Don't quote me on this being law but if you have a right to breastfeed in public, don't you have the right to pump? Meaning, there can't be an HR policy that would prohibit you from doing this. Out of courtesy, I would let them know the situation in advance and agree together how to best accommodate everyone. But, if it came down to it, I'd have no issue pumping in the car. You gotta do what you gotta do!!

@PawPrints: I pumped every day driving home from work when I EPd. I would go to my car, put the cover on, attach everything...drive home (hands free pumping), then park in my garage and remove everything and go inside. Easy peasy!

After a while I even went through some drive throughs for the bank and what not.

I would probably ask. The car is pretty loud and if they have music on and are talking, the sound wouldn't be an issue--as long as you have a giant cover and they can't see anything...

I had to pump once in the front seat while my inlaws rode in the back seat. They are from a more conservative south asian culture, so it was slightly awkward, but I had a big cover, didn't show anything, and frankly, it had to be done (8 hour road trip).

I have two coworkers that I feel comfortable doing this in front of, but that is because they're my long time friends as well. In any other situation, I wouldn't do it. I'd just drive separately or pump and miss parts of the meetings.

I would not ask. You are putting them in very awkward spot and I would be really worried that they would say yes, but actually be uncomfortable with it. I just think nursing in front of people and pumping in front of people are two totally different ball games. I would probably just drive myself so I could pump when I needed to without worry.

I would do it. I pumped with a car packed full of girls on a weekend away. I just used a cover. I pretty much pumped in front of anyone w a cover. They literally could see nothing, I don't see why it would be a big deal.

As long as it's not an HR issue it should be fine!! Ugh such a pain to pump, haha.

If you are really worried, look into the Freemie flange adapter kit for your pump. It's how I pump while driving. So easy.

It depends on the relationship you have with your coworkers! I would ask my coworkers, but we're really close and are friends outside of school. I wish breastfeeding was more socially acceptable!

Relatedly, I'm a teacher and just had to email my principal asking for accommodations for pumping next year. So awkward.

ugh such an awful situation to be in! I pumped in the car once with my BIL and SIL haha! But they're family - it was still weird because I'm not super close with BIL (he and my husband are the closest siblings in their family, but we live in another state) and he hadn't had any kids yet so I was worried he'd feel weird - thankfully he was fine with it. But I'd feel awkward asking anything who wasn't a SUPER close friend or family.

Once (before I had kids) I went to a class 3 hrs away with a new mom. She asked the week before the class if we (other coworker and I) were ok with her pumping in the backseat. Neither of us cared so she went ahead with it. I think it was nice to run it by us ahead of time, although I don't think it was totally necessary to ask us.
