Babies can definitely smell the milk. I'd be pumping in the middle of the night in the kitchen and my son would wake up crying almost every time. The door to his nursery would always be shut too. When we sleep trained I couldn't be involved because my son would be able to smell my milk and would get more worked up knowing he wasn't getting it so my husband did the sleep training.

So frustrating!!! That seemed to happen to me even when I was in another room. I could never understand how women could pump and breastfeed because I could never seem to have enough time to do it without her crying for it.

I swear when I pump too close to DS he will wake up out of a sleep and cry for milk (even if recently fed). It happened 2x in the car this weekend when we were on a weekend trip away (pumping and he wakes up and cries for milk) and then just happened at home when he was right next to me in his boppy. My husband thinks he can smell the milk and wakes up wanting more even if not hungry.

Anyone else experience this?
