For me, I really have to relax to get milk flowing. So when I first start the pump, I close my eyes and do a quick meditation exercise (I use one I learned for labor). That usually gets me a let-down, but if not, I then look at videos of my son, which helps. The lots of massaging! And hand expressing at the end!

Also make sure you're getting enough water (or Gatorade) and calories.

@glitterboots: Are you making sure you get enough water? That directly impacted my supply. You could also be ovulating or getting ready to get your period, that always caused a drop for me. My pump started to die around the 10-month mark (Ameda Purely Yours) and I ended up renting a hospital grade pump for the next month to get me through until I was pump weaning.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I replaced my membranes 2 months ago, so I'm due for new ones. I ordered new valves as well. Tomorrow I'll try massaging as well and hopefully see some improvement!

An easy trick to get another ounce or so is to slowly push from underneath your armpits out towards your nipple as the pump is going. Do this all along the sides of your rib cage. It will help you get all of the milk out of the side ducts. You can do one hands on one side at a time, making it easy peasy. This obviously won't solve the entire problem, but it could be used in combination with the other suggestions.

How long do you typically pump for? Could you increase your time? It really helped me to pump longer. It's hard for me to add a session, but it was easy to add a few minutes here and there. I didn't see an increase right away, but eventually I did. I have friends that swear by Gatorade and power pumping. I hope something works!

I second new membranes. I change mine every 4-6 weeks me always notice a bump in my output. They other things that have worked for me are massaging my breasts and looking at pics/videos of LO while pumping. I've also used a heating pad or Rice pack on my chest before and during pumping and that seems to help too. Good luck!!

Have you checked to make sure than none of the tubes/membranes are ripped? If you haven't replaced them (especially the membranes), you could try that. Good luck, I'm sorry you're having a hard time.

I've been pumping since 3 months when I've returned to work and have always struggled pumping enough. But the last two weeks, I'm getting almost nothing from the pump. Today, I've only gotten a total of 1 1/2 oz. My LO is eating more solids, but will still nurse 2-3 times per night, and every 3-4 hours during the day on the weekends. I did want to start weaning this summer, but I wasn't quite ready yet. What can I do at this point to increase supply when I pump?
