@charlotte: the only reason why I would wait for a second letdown is to avoid fore milk/hind milk imbalance.

I think pumping time is totally up to you. If you are getting enough then that's good.

I'm pretty much the same way. I can pump 5-6oz from each side in under 7 minutes, including a second let-down. My LO is 7.5 months old and I've had no problems with my supply. If you're trying to build a freezer stash you might try pumping longer to see if you get more, but I see no reason to worry. Some women just have a super fast let-down/flow.

My LO also eats quickly, although he often likes to comfort nurse, especially at night/early morning, so those sessions last a bit longer--closer to 20-25 minutes, but during the day he's done in under 10.

Hi all! I am almost 2 weeks PP and have some BF / pumping questions.

I started using a manual pump from time to time when we got home from the hospital and could pump about 2 oz in less than 10 minutes with that.

I just tried my Ameda electric for the first time and got 3 oz. from one side in 3 minutes. That seems like a lot in no time! As far as I could tell that was just one let down. I stopped after that...should I have kept going and tried for more and/ or a longer time period??

I should note that my son also eats quickly... about 8 minutes TOTAL every 2.5 hours (I only offer one side per feeding). He is definitely gaining weight and always has a wet or yellow poop diaper for me. We have no latch problems or fussing, it all seems really efficient...

Are nursing and pumping just "fast" for us, and is it okay? Everything seems great but I'm worried because it is so different from other peoples' experiences [and the instructions for the pump say pump 10 minutes].

I'm less worried about his short eating times and more so about ruining my supply or something by only pumping 3 minutes?

ANY insight is appreciated. I'm pretty clueless!
