@T.H.O.U.: I was thinking that! I was trying pumping and having my break around 7 pm, so it would be about 5 hours between feeding and pumping, but I got paranoid it would affect my supply.
Long term goal... I plan to continue nursing until it doesn't work for me or he self weans. I feel like Ill have to keep pumping until then for comfort at the very least because I will always miss the bedtime nursing session!

@Ms.Badger: I kind of do that, using frozen milk on my first evening back at work, and then using 2 of the pumped bags each day and popping two in the freezer. I was preparing 3 bottles, because even if he doesn't finish, I don't want DH to keep offering the same bottle all night. Which he tends to do anyways I think. I try to make 2-3 small bottles with only a couple ounces in them.

@MenagerieMama: Thanks for the encouragement! Did you keep pumping till you weaned?

Great job! what's your long term goal? I would think you could try cutting to 1 pump per night (maybe around a late dinner?)

I work 3- 12 hr night shifts a week- 7pm-7:30am. I pump around 5:30 right before I leave for work then pump 3 times during my shift at 9:30pm, 1:30am and 5:30 am then again at 8:30 when I get home. I pump about 20 oz while I am at work but she eats a lot before bed and then still up 1 or 2 times a night with my husband eating 5 oz at a time so I am barely keeping up with her right now.

@junebugsmama: I'm super impressed with your output. My only suggestion is regarding wasting bottles your son won't drink. If it's fresh, pumped milk it should last 3-4 days in the fridge easy. So Monday, I usually only make 3 bottles while I'm gone and if he needs another (my little dude is a bottle monster :silly: ) my DH uses frozen milk. Then every day after that I prep 4 bottles of fresh pumped milk. If he doesn't eat the 4th bottle, I put a nipple and cover on that one (instead of just the screw top) and instruct the nanny to feed him that one first. That way I know if there's a bottle left, it is only 1 day old. Repeat. On Thursday, my last day at work that week, I freeze everything I pump during the day, and the "left-over" bottle becomes the week-end, running errands bottle. Hope that helps!

When I worked the 3-11 shift I had a similar nursing schedule to you but was only able to pump once - usually around 6:30pm. I think averaging 12 oz? My LO was similar to yours and would usually only take 4-8 oz on those evening shifts and I donated a ton! She's also a chunk - was almost 22 lb at 9 mo. Keep up the good work!

Forgot to add I don't have to worry about his weight gain or anything because he's possibly the biggest 8 month old ever at 27 lbs!

I am especially interested in anyone who had alternative type schedules than the typical 9-5.

My baby is 8 months and I went back to work at 5 months. I work evening shift 3pm-11pm. I typically try to nurse him at 2 pm before I leave but sometimes he is napping so then it's more like 1. Then I bring him to bed with me when I get home and nurse him around midnight or a bit later.
1-2pm nurse
5pm-first pump (while I eat dinner). Usually get about 8-9 oz
9pm-second pump. Usually get 6-7 oz.
12 midnight nurse

Unfortunately my baby never has really taken to bottles, and barely drinks while I am gone. 8 oz would be a lot, 4 oz is more typical. Luckily this means I don't have to worry about pumping output, I just pump enough to keep my supply. I had so much frozen milk I donated some. I hate wasting it every day, since I prepare him like 3 4 oz bottles just in case.
