I just thought I had to pump even if she was getting a bottle of breastmilk to tell my body to keep making that amount since normally she would've been nursing. But good point that I am pumping at some other time during the day, so clearly I am "making up" the difference... just not at the same time. I wasn't sure if the timing mattered (I am pretty clueless here!!). DH gives her a bottle about once a day but I am usually home during then so I can pump at the same time. I'm only out of the house without her maybe once a week, if that.</p> <p>@edelweiss: Ha, I have a bachelorette party in two weeks and I am in a tizzy about what to do!! It is local but I'll still probably be away from her for like 5 hours. It's at fancy restaurants/clubs downtown so it's not like I can haul a pump with me in my little black dress and sit in a bathroom stall for 20 minutes... gah. And how often are you talking about here? If you seem to have a good supply and she's getting only breastmilk I would not think you'd have to make it up. Because you're obviously pumping some time to have the milk to give her in a bottle. I thought it was more important to pump when LO gets formula so that your body gets a signal to make more. If you have enough to BF and pump for bottles I feel like you're fine. My 6 week old is EBF and I have been pumping over the last couple weeks so that DH or our moms can give her a bottle occasionally - so that I can go somewhere without her for an hour! I know that I'm supposed to pump whenever she takes a bottle in order to keep up my supply. However, if I go out and she eats while I'm gone, she often will want to eat as soon as I'm back and I don't have time to pump to make up for that bottle feeding (she's still eating every 1-2 hours during the day).</p> <p>So... do I just not worry about making it up? Try to find some time later to pump? I don't know if it's important to pump really close to the time she took the bottle, or just at some point throughout the day. It just feels like I never have time to make up that feeding before she's hungry again! </p>
